Good looking, impressively light, and versatile post to perch on. Clamp hardware is a clever design requiring more care/patience. First of all, if you understand the mechanics of the assembly, you’d know there is no reason to unscrew that adjusting bolt to the point the barrel falls once the saddle is installed. So install your saddle with the post out of the frame and if installation requires removing the adjusting bolt completely, be ready for that threaded barrel to fall out the bottom of the post. To reinstall that threaded barrel, know that the hollowed end is a M6 allen fitting. Hold the barrel in position and adjust the angle with a 6mm allen wrench while manoucering the adjusting bolt to catch the threads. Once saddle tilt is set, fore and aft adjustments are made by simply loosening the rear bolt. There is no reason to torque the forward bolt. That bolt only adjusts the tilt of the saddle. If this sounds too tricky, bring it to your local bicycle mechanic for installation.
If the front bolt is loosened to much the nut drops into the seat post and is almost impossible to get threaded again. There are no YouTube videos with a solution. This post is light and very comfortable to ride but terrible to work on.
There's nothing preventing the front nut from falling out of the seatpost if the front bolt is loosened too much, and there's no warning for when it'll happen. That's fine, but trying to get the nut to seat again is maybe impossible. I've wasted 3 hours now trying to get it to seat but the nut is freely suspended inside the post with nothing to bite into. How hard would it have been to allow the nut to run the entire length of the post so it at least has something to sit on? Terrible design.
I've had two. Best post out there. Super simple to set up and install, foolproof really. Lightest post I've owned and looking forward to having more for other builds!
Very lightweight and sturdy. I installed on a Seven Cycles bike.
Very lightweight, quality seatpost. I'm very impressed with the fit and finish. The only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is the clamp is a bit fiddly. If you don't have a full window in the middle of your saddle, it takes quite a while to set the saddle tilt. Also, don't ever-loosen the front bolt or you might lose the captured nut into the post... or worse into your frame if you don't run a Di2 battery.
Been using this in a steel frame. It really doesn’t have any other considerable functional advantage over other specialized carbon seatposts, other than it’s very light! Would love to have a zero setback version Specialized! 😉
I've been on a tear modernizing my old 2009 Specialized Allez. I've installed a few carbon fiber goodies to increase comfort and decrease weight. I purchased the Roval Alpinist seatpost during a sale after reviewing a few other CF seat posts with the main goal of bump conformance and decreasing weight. I felt the price point and features were there. So far, I've gotten one ride on the post, and it's shocking to see what the difference this post made! What were jarring bumps are now far more subdued. The only thing I'm having difficulty with is adjusting the seat. As you sit on the seat, the rear of the seat moves down, and the nose up due to the deflection of the post. It will take some adjustment to determine where the seat is level while sitting. I did not have trouble installing the post, but I was disappointed that CF grip gel was not included. Luckily, the bike shop had some on hand.
Use of a barrel nut inside the seat post to secure the saddle clamp is a poor design. There is no warning not to loosen the barrel nut excessively when fitting/adjusting the seat as it can fall into the bike frame.
Superb lightweight seatpost with great fit and finish. Love that the setback isn't as far back as most and compatible with both steel and carbon rails. One thing to note, it's a bit trickier to fit a saddle without a cutout due to the top bolt. However, the top bolt has holes so you can use a very thin hex key to turn the bolt and I was able to get my old Aliante on.
Light and strong.
Super lightweight post - mine came in slightly under spec weight. Subtle branding. Affordable even compared to heavier carbon posts. The clamp isn’t ideal for constant readjustment, but if your bike fit is already dialed in, that’s not a problem. It would be great if it came in a zero setback option.
Ride quality noticeably improved. Stupidly light and compatible with round and oval rails. Sleek and stealthy looks are just to die for
Usei em uma Crux. Ele é mais curto, provavelmente para reduzir ao máximo o peso, o que é interessante para os weightweenies. Ele não flexiona como um canote Roval Terra, mas tem absorção satisfatória das imperfeições. Regulagem fina. Muito interessante!
Super Lightweight... beautiful fit and finish and did i mention? super lightweight
Super light, sleek/minimal design, great quality. Highly recommend
Love the post! Super light. Love the Aesthetics.
Great product? Super light as advertised.
Expensive, but worth every dollar! As expected from Specialized, this seat post is precisely designed and made. The 12mm setback was sufficient for my position on the bike, and the tilt and fore-aft adjustment was simple to do, with only two bolts. I did not have any issues with the front bolt being upward-facing, as I have a cutout saddle, but I'm sure that the front bolt could be pre-positioned before you would torque down the back bolt. The appearance is a flat black, with minimal black graphics that give a stealthy and classy appearance. I noticed a definite improvement in ride quality with this and a new carbon-railed saddle. A top-notch, premium upgrade to my cockpit!
Love the seatpost and the look! Super light for my aethos
Waiting on my frame, so haven't installed this yet, but here are first impressions. - Weight for the 360mm is not listed on the site. With all hardware, weight on my scale is 149g. - I took the front nut and bolt apart to apply anti-seize. Getting them back together was a pain, but still doable. - The front bolt is accessible from the top, so tough when installing a saddle without a cutout. You might be able to fit a regular L-shaped allen key, you can try cutting down an allen key, or you can stick something into the holes in the bolt head and turn from the side. A 1.5mm allen key fits. I'm not aware of a way to get a torque wrench on any of these approaches, which is a bummer. The front just adjusts the angle, so my plan is to torque the front by hand and then get a torque wrench on the rear.
It’s pricey and the initial set up is a bit tricky, but I think it’s well worth it. I like the fact that it accepts both oval and round rail saddle without needing an adapter. I also like that the offset is 12mm….a good middle ground between 25mm and 0mm. Lastly, it is crazy light! I have it on all my bikes now including the gravel bikes, and they seem to be holding up well.
I needed a new seatpost and decided to splurge for this carbon seatpost and oh boy am I satisfied! The mounting hardware for the saddle is slightly inconvenient (two bolts vs the most common one side bolt) but once setup it's super solid. As well, the carbon layup negates EVERY bump in the road. Biking around Boston now, it's almost like they pave the roads properly considering how this seatpost cancels out the bumps and potholes. I love it for comfort. At the same time, it weighs nothing! Really just the best of the best around.
