    • Trail riding starts here. Inspired by Specialized’s heritage in making mountain bikes, the Riprock offers modern MTB features such as a slack head tube angle, internally routed cables, hydraulic disc brakes, and Ground Control tires.

Kid loves it. Great bike, but one issue.

Great bike, my 6yo loves it, especially the color, but the brakes are terrible. C-STAR/Radius is some substandard junk that doesn't belong here. The day I received the bike and built it up, I noticed the levers were squishy and needed a good bleeding, of which was made difficult by an apparent lack of [engineering] consideration. This same day, I ordered a set of Shimano MT200 brakes/calipers and some RT56 160mm rotors for ~$100. A bit upset I had to do this on a $600 kids bike, but brakes are a safety item.

My little guy loves it but some small issues.

My 5 year old went straight from a strider to this in May and was doing figure 8's in the driveway after only about 30 minutes of coaching! Only problem we've had is the rear brake reservoir failing and leaking all over the place. This resulted in replacing with a Shimano unit at a cost of $110 and I'm sure the front will need replacing eventually as well so that's a bummer. Overall though it has been great for my son, he did an over 8 mile ride on it yesterday!

    Great Ripper

This bike looks the part and it’s built with good quality parts and frame finish overall - the geo is not ideal for a beginner kiddo, but one that’s coming from a smaller bike will really feel the confidence of the big and real mountain bike tires and disc brakes !

    Terrible Brakes

The brakes never worked well then officially died after 4 hrs of riding. Honestly maybe 3 hrs. The stem is cut super short so you can’t adjust the geo. The rear derailleur almost touches the ground in some gears, it won’t even fit rear wheel side into a normal floor rack. Just a really terrible bike for the money. Either spend up or spend down - don’t get stuck with this lemon. The positives: Shifter, tires, frame & fork material/ finish. Bottom bracket, hubs/ rims are acceptable but not great.

    Not sure

Puts my kid in a very aggressive stance. He doesn’t like it. Too much weight on his arms/hands. Had to replace the brakes after a few months. They are terrible.

    Great bike…except for the brakes

Purchased in late 2021 for my then 5 year-old son. Great fit/geometry and a pretty good overall package for an enthusiastic little rider. However, within 3 months the Radius brakes began to fail. The Specialized-owned shop that sold me the bike promptly exchanged the whole bike for a new one. More than I would have asked for and seemed like a waste, but whatever. Bike #2 rode well for several months but right around the 1-year warranty date the brakes again began to fail. Back to the shop, they couldn’t warranty again but did their best to service them, which bought us a few rides but again they failed. Specialized should do better than to put such faulty, outright dangerous brakes on a bike, especially a kids bike. I know it was probably to hit a price point, but brakes are not the part to go with an no-name brand to save $$. As long as they are are still speccing these Radius brakes on the Riprock 20, I would strongly discourage any parent from buying this bike for their kids.

Solid choice for advance young riders

Got this for my 5 year old son over a year ago. For context he was riding since 2 and was coming from a Woom 3 (Strider -> Woom 2 -> Woom 3) which he used for all terrains but mostly dirt and gravel trails. The Riprock is a great value for what you get and the clearance for the wider tires on the riprock is a high selling point: the extra traction and stability on the trails is really noticeable (also having tires as wide as dad's bike has its own special joy). The weight is great as well; any heavier might have been discouraging. This was his first experience with gears and the shifter is crisp and very easy to trigger. The gear range is well suited for a wide variety of riding. We did run into a problem with one of the brake levers/reservoirs leaking which was a bummer but Specialized had us covered and nothing really beat the sight of the giant black Specialized sprinter van/mobile bikeshop pulling up to replace the whole lever under warranty. Overall the bike has been great!

Not a good fit for kids

We bought this bike for our son’s 5th birthday. He’s about as tall as our 7 year old son for size reference. Until now he’s been riding a specialized rip rock coaster 20 and it’s great but we are in need of some gears. Bought this one expecting it to be great and it isn’t. The fit is wrong and the gears are not great, especially the way they’re switched. The handle bars are so low he was riding in a completely different position and no longer as confident in his riding. As for the gears, they’re trigger switch, not grip switch, so it isn’t as easy or intuitive for younger riders. We have other sons on gear bikes one a salsa and one an REI coop and much prefer those over this one unfortunately. The Jett probably would have been a better choice.

Tough, well made little bike, but...

The brakes are not good. They did not work well out of the box and we lived with it since she was still learning the controls. She is ready to rip now, but the brakes are dead (lever to grip, no pad engagement), will not bleed correctly, and will likely never work. I bleed the brakes/repair all my bikes (for decades at this point) and never have an issue and thus will be replacing these brakes at my cost to get my little shredder rolling again. Any potential buyer should plan to replace them as well. One other thing to note is that many of the bolts did not have any grease. I liked that the bike came with some basic tools for assembly and setup (though I did not need them).

    Real 20" MTB

Awsome 20" MTB . Best Value around ! Rigid fork with wider volume tires make lot of sense for 20" bike. My son has been absolutly loving it. Only couple of thigs I would point out which needs to updated is 1. microshift derailleur needs to be the "super short" version on this bike . the one spec'd is too long and gets damaged easily. I have had couple of repairs already on the derailleur 2. Need additional stack height adjustment. Fork was cut with just 2 5mm spacers , wish they had left more spacers

Gracias!!!
