I started out on a hardtail rockhopper pro evo from 2016, great bike but wanted to try full sus. Jumped on a direct-to-consumer brand bike that was very entry level - Rockshox recon, base shimano 12-speed 1x drivetrain, and a basic dropper post. It was okay, but I wanted something that I could really grow into, get great performance out of, had a real manufacturers warranty with brick & mortar locations, and most of all was better spec'd.
The comp alloy was the best of both worlds, not as expensive as carbon bikes, but still has a surprisingly light alloy frame with what I consider to be a great fork. Wish it had GX at this price range, but other than that I love the bike. Maxxis tires and you're gtg.
