With the new Shimano 105 Di2 12-speed group to bring electronic shifting to the masses, along with some fast rolling tires in the Turbo Pro 700x26mm tires, this new Tarmac delivers performance at a more palatable price point.

  • While aerodynamics were paramount to the Tarmac’s development, and to the development of all of our race bikes, weight was the co-pilot on this optimal race bike journey. Previously “aero bikes” always compromised in the weight department—the more drag you reduced, the more weight you gained. With the new Tarmac, our design philosophy was to keep it at, or below, the UCI weight limit out of the box, with no sacrifices to aerodynamics. And with the help of the FreeFoil Shape Library, tools like isotopic FEA analysis, and some engineering wizardry by the best engineers in the industry, we delivered a FACT 9r frame that weighs a mere 1010 grams, without giving up a gram of aero, stiffness or ride quality.

  • Continuing our quest to develop the perfect race bike, we used our Rider-First Engineered™ philosophy to ensure that the new Tarmac is the most balanced, best handling Tarmac yet—no matter the size. With an army of the world’s best test riders from our three World Tour Teams — Boels-Dolmans, Deceuninck-Quick-Step, and Bora-hansgrohe — we made changes to the Tarmac based on their thousands of kilometers on the road. We balanced the ride quality between the front and rear end, so even the longest days in the saddle continue to be comfortable—all without giving up anything to the Tarmac’s legendary handling and race-winning snappiness.

  • Building on the learnings from the Venge, the new Tarmac utilizes simple integration to create a clean, fast cockpit that’s easy to live with. We’ve improved the routing for any configuration — mechanical shifting, traditional stems, round bars, etc. — all while keeping its aerodynamic attributes. These same traits also make the new Tarmac easy to work on and easy to travel with. It’s a win-win.

Awesome bike

The di2 is shifting is sooo smooth, I wish this bike would come with carbon wheels but luckily my LBS will upgrade these for me. Still a pretty good bike out of the box! Color looks great and integrated wires are a plus. The matte finish is harder to maintain though!

Fast as lightning, huge upgrade

I absolutely love this thing. I began cycling seriously around two years ago, and I had had a Allez Disc Sport that was also amazing, however I wanted something a bit more agressive and aero to push me to that higher performance bracket. That being said, I’m straight out of college and couldn’t afford the Pro or the S-Works models, but the Comp was a perfect balance of being relatively affordable (though $5k is still a LOT of money) and having the agressive geometry of the flagship Tarmac. Coming from a Tiagra groupset, the 105 di2 shifting was another massive change in yen quality of the ride—I can’t stress that enough. It comes stock with 25mm tires however I swapped those out for 28mm GP5000’s which was a great choice for comfort and running lower pressures. I really am impressed with the Comp model and recommend it to all of my entry to mid-level amateurs that are looking to really increase their performance.

Love the bike.

The Tarmac SL7 Comp is head and shoulders above any other bike I’ve owned and I LOVE it. The only complaint I have is that the Quality Control might not be there… my front derailleur came loose about 200km into ownership. I was lucky enough to be close to my LBS when it happened, so they got me up and running quickly, but I’m a bit disappointed it happened at all. This bike is too expensive for not having everything good to go.

Good bike until the derailleur fell off on 3rd ride

The Tarmac could be a great bike, but buying online left me hanging. Amazing ride uphill the first few rides, but the brakes were weird on the descents, and in the big ring it clacked, clacked louder, and then the front derailleur just fell right off. Both hanger bolts were loose enough to come entirely out after a couple hours of riding. In some ways it's a much better bike than the previous Tarmac I loved. But I bought that at a local shop (now closed) that took care that the bikes it sold were assembled and tuned right. This bike seemed to have been assembled by Boeing.
