Whether your goal is to escape on gravel back roads, far from cars and crowds, toe the start line at your first gravel race, or simply get the most versatile bike on the road or dirt, no bike is better than the new Diverge. It's quite simply the fastest, most capable - and just maybe the most fun - alloy bike we've ever made, delivering a ride that's quick and lively, but stable and confidence inspiring when the terrain gets rough. From Future Shock 1.5 and all-new gravel geometry, to category leading tire clearance, the new Diverge represents everything we've learned over more than 40 years of riding road, gravel and dirt. The Diverge writes an entirely new chapter in the gravel bike category, so you can dream up entirely new rides. It's the ultimate getaway vehicle.

Starting with premium E5 alloy frame and a full carbon FACT fork, we gave the Diverge Comp E5 our Future Shock 1.5 for a fast, confident and comfortable ride on road, in the dirt, and over thick gravel. SRAM’s gravel-inspired Apex 1 group shifts 1x11 gears smoothly on any terrain and Axis Elite alloy wheels with Pathfinder Sport 38mm tires add even more capability and versatility.

  • Our Premium E5 Aluminum frame provides a stiff, light, and durable platform. When mated to our full carbon FACT fork, the Diverge Comp E5 becomes a light, lively and versatile bike ready to attack any surface.

  • Speed, control and confidence - Future Shock 1.5 is ideal technology for the gravel rider. With 20mm of axial compliance, Future Shock 1.5 is progressively tuned specifically for gravel riding. This keeps you confident and in control, able to keep the power down and stay off the brakes over rough dirt roads and in thick loose gravel, all while keeping your hands, arms and neck fresh.

  • We tossed gravel geometry ‘status-quo’ out the window. The new Diverge has the most progressive geometry we’ve ever created for a drop bar bike, giving riders a capable and stable bike in the dirt, that still feels responsive and nimble on the road. We’ve increased the frame’s reach, introduced a slacker head tube and a longer offset fork. All this creates incredible confidence with a planted feeling in the dirt, while spec’ing shorter stems keeps the overall cockpit length the same and the steering lively. We’ve kept the bike’s BB low to increase stability, but high enough to utilize with 650b wheels if that’s your jam.

  • We’ve given the Diverge plenty of rack mounts, including fork and top tube mounts, to ensure you can take what you need, no matter how far you plan to go, or how long you plan to stay out.

  • Nothing unlocks a bike’s capability like tire clearance, so we gave the new Diverge a whopping 47mm of tire clearance with a 700c wheel and 2.1” with a 650b wheel. Thanks to a drive side chain stay utilizing a machined alloy beam behind the chain rings we’ve created clearance without using a fragile dropped chain stay design or increasing chain stay length.

Chain Drops

The specialized diverge comp bike is fine, but my chain drops constantly when going uphill. I’ve taken it in to my local dealer 7 times, each time they think it’s fixed, I go back out & chain drops. Very disappointing to spend good money on a good brand, and have this issue. I’ve read numerous reviews of this happening with this bike in particular. :(

Good bike but disappointing wheelset

The bike is great, and it felt great for the first year. Then, after the first full service, the back wheel kept coming out of true and eventually spokes started snapping. Note that this isn't covered by warranty and you will likely need to upgrade your wheelset after the first year. I treated myself to a set of Roval C38s and it feels like a new bike again, but just note that you will likely need to put in this additional budget to keep enjoying the bike.

Great hybrid ride

I'm 68 and ride on lots of gravel, some pavement, rail trails, and some very steep terrain in Vermont. My new Diverge tackles it all. It's pricey but I'm very happy with it. My only wish is that Specialized made a drop handlebar with more rise in it to give older riders a more upright posture.

Not impressed with the quality

This is a replacement commuter bike as my old S-Works bike's frame snapped. I've now have appx 400 miles on it over the 6-weeks I've owned it. While it's finally starting to act like a normal bike, I shouldn't have had to take it to the bike shop for repairs so soon and often. 1) (20 miles in) Main bearing noise (shop tightened axle bolt ... fixed) 2) (40 - 200 miles) More noise that took a while to pin down (found the factory bolts keep loosening on the tube bag - locktite fixed them) 3) Chain that keeps coming off the front gear. (Once/week -- usually happens when trying to catch the light at the bottom of a valley on my commute). Not sure how to fix? (p.s. I also have been speaking with corporate about my old bike. Be sure to keep your receipt as they only keep the warranty card on file for 8-years -- and in their own words, "Warranty cards are used for emails to send marketing communications. It's not there to prove ownership for the lifetime frame warranty.")

Gravel Diverge evo

Great Bike w/ updates

Great bike. However, I (and others...search Diverge chain drop) had to change out components to stop dropping the chain off front chainring. Many have theories of issue...absolutely it does better when chain is properly sequenced with the Praxis chainring...but it will still drop with the right bump and a shift. Fixed it by replacing chainring, cassette, and chain to SRAM. Don't think all were required but was tired of messing around with the chain dropping so did it all at one time. 1x on my mountain bike is 100% bullet proof so I knew the Diverge could get there as well with the right combination of parts.

Wheels

Great bike I have one for road and one for dirt I have made both bike tubeless with no problems with the OEM wheels different tire options. No leaks I use orange seal & Wisky tape. The bike is super 60 mph on the down hills running 38 slicks and climbs like a goat on and off the pavement. Perfect bike. I’m going to order the full suspension version ASAP.

Riding this bike has been

Riding this bike has been a dream! I am 5'7", 30.5" inseam, my wingspan is 5'9". I have adjusted it to feel a bit smaller by moving the seat forward, I might look into getting a shorter stem as it is a teensy bit long for me. Other than that, the shifting is so smooth and speedy. The breaks work like a dream. I used to squeeze my regular breaks with all my might half way down the hill to stop in time. I haven't noticed the future shock, which might signal how great it is. The only drawback I would say is the seat it came with. It was so awful I had to change it out immediately.

Took this out for the first time last week and totally love it. It was an absolute pleasure to ride and made really short work of the hills. A lot more robust than my road bike, so I can extend my riding into the winter months now.

Swiss Army knife of Bikes

I was pleasantly surprised by this bike. Normally a road biker on an S-works with much higher end components. However, for the price point this is great. Worked nice both on and off road. Could tell the difference off road. The gearing on the 1X was nice and the bike was compliant at speed. Slightly slower than my road bike on road (about 2 MPH slower every 10 miles). However, lots of fun both on and off road. Nice change of pace when I want to ride gravel. Hesitated to ride and aluminum frame but the tire width made up for the aluminum frame. Lots of fun at the price point. I have the future shock 2.0 on my road bike but the Future shock 1.5 was nice on this platform. Nice ride for the price point!

$2500 and it cannot be made tubeless

I've had this bike for about 6 months and put a lot of miles on it. I'm happy with the it overall but I am unhappy with the fact that it CANNOT be made tubeless. I bought new tires, taped the rims, had the sealant, stems and thought I was ready to go. However, once I seated the tires both rims leaked through the seam on the rim itself. No way for me to seal them. I would think for the price point it would be possible to make the wheels tubeless in this day and age. Somewhat dissapointed!!

This is my first gravel

This is my first gravel bike so not in the best position to opine with experience on gravel riding and racing. What I was looking for was the gravel capability, improved comfort (compared to road bike) and a jump on and enjoy bike. This is simply a lovely bike, weight is pleasantly light, the 1x drive train with less complexity has provided the range I need and the headset suspension helps smooth some of the London bumps & heavier gravel paths. Thoroughly enjoyable - and the option to have my local bike shop get it ride ready from the get-go was a must have option.

I’m not a hard core

I’m not a hard core graveler so I can’t give a review based on that type of riding. I bought this for the 1x drive train and the headset suspension, being in my 50s with joint issues, this is what I need right now. Weight was also a consideration. That said, it’s a great bike, surprisingly light for a gravel bike. I ride a 49 and it comes in at just over 10kgs. There’s no rolling resistance. Swapping out the stem and adding spacers was also very easy. My only complaint is that I wished the website provided more specifics, I had to do a lot of my own research. Canyon’s website is a good example to follow. They made up for this with great customer service. Highly recommend!

Great Bike

I ordered the Diverge Comp E5 size 52. It's a beautiful bike. Pros: * Gearing, tires, frame mount points (for bikepacking), weight. Neutral: * Futureshock is okay. It's certainly better than nothing, but it's no Redshift Shockstop. Cons: * I've been a flat handlebar rider for decades. I was hoping I would be able to transition to drop handlebars. After trying for several weeks, I've decided that it's a great bike, but in the end wasn't an enjoyable ride for me. If you are used to road bikes and want to switch to gravel, this bike is highly recommended. If you are coming from MTB and want a gravel bike, look at the Diverge EVO instead. I ended up returning the Diverge Comp E5 and getting a Diverge EVO Comp. The EVO is nearly the same bike with a flat handlebar. Summary: Specialized Diverge is a great gravel bike, highly recommended. Consider carefully whether drop handlebars (COMP E5) or flat handlebars (EVO) is the better bike for you.

I ordered the Diverge Comp

I ordered the Diverge Comp E5 size 52. It's a beautiful bike. Pros: * Gearing is perfect. I live in a mostly flat area (Midwest US). I can occasionally use the top gear and hit 20+ MPH. There is only one really steep hill in the area and the granny gear was able to climb it. There is good graduation between each gear. None feels like a big jump one way or the other, and it's easy to shift up or down to hit the right gear for current conditions. * Tires are a nice pattern with a road-like center area and more gravel-like side pattern. 38 mm seems like the perfect width for this type of riding. * Frame mount points are excellent. I wanted this bike for bikepacking and there's a mount point for everything. The only surprising mount is for a back rack. That mounts to the seatpost screw vs. the frame itself. It makes adjusting the seat more complicated, but it works. * Weight is great. I'm used to bikes that weigh five to ten pounds more than this, and you can really tell the difference every time you lift it. You'll also feel the difference in your acceleration, and hopefully in your climbing. Neutral: * Futureshock is okay. It's certainly better than nothing, but it's no Redshift. Having had a Redshift seat post and stem for a couple of years now, I won't go without. Redshift seat post and stem can be added to the Diverge without any issues. Cons: * I've been a flat handlebar rider for decades. I was hoping I would be able to transition to drop handlebars. After trying both Cannondale Topstone and Specialized Diverge for several weeks each, I've decided that drop handlebars aren't for me. They're too low and too far forward. I end up having to stretch too much and have too much pressure on my hands to make long rides comfortable. I regularly do 40+ mile rides and did my first century ride last year. 30 miles was about as far as I could stand on this bike. It's a great bike, but in the end wasn't enjoyable for me. If you are used to road bikes and want to switch to gravel, this bike is highly recommended. If you are coming from MTB and want a gravel bike, look at the Diverge EVO instead. I ended up returning the Diverge Comp E5 and getting a Diverge EVO Comp. The EVO is nearly the same bike (same gears, same mount points, slightly different frame, different tires) with a flat handlebar. I've been able to adjust the EVO to be comfortable for me. If you live in a flat area the EVO Comp is fine. If you live in an area with steep slopes, consider the EVO Expert so you have more gear options. TL;DR: Specialized Diverge is a great gravel bike, highly recommended. Consider carefully whether drop handlebars (COMP E5) or flat handlebars (EVO) is the better bike for you.
