Hooked on Tubeless

Hooked on Tubeless

Rapide CLX II wheels are aero, stable, light, and durable. They also feature hooked rims, so you can get all of the benefits of tubeless performance at pressures up to 110psi, with the flexibility to choose the tire you want and the width you want.

Aerodynamics Meet Stability

Aerodynamics Meet Stability

Rapide CLX wheels are as fast as dedicated TT wheels and as stable as shallower climbing wheels. Our next-generation optimization algorithm was tasked with creating stability based on rider reaction time. This is speed for the real world.

Testing Tubeless

After two years and the biggest development and testing program ever undertaken by Roval, the Rapide CLX II meet our extremely high internal testing standards—standards that almost double existing certification requirements.

Since 2020, Rapide CLX wheels have won more races on the World Tour than any other wheels, and we just made them faster. Meet the new Rapide CLX II. Combining the aerodynamics of a deep-section TT wheel with the light weight of a shallower climbing wheel and mixing in the superior efficiency and sublime handling of a tubeless system—the Rapide CLX II delivers maximum speed for real-world riding.

We developed distinctly different shapes for the Rapide CLX II front and rear rims. The result is a wheelset that catches less drag than most 65mm wheelsets and brings a dramatic 25% improvement in stability over 50mm rims in wind gusts.

The Rapide CLX II utilizes a hooked rim (allowing for real-world riding pressures up to 110psi, if that’s your thing) for secure tire bead retention and an easier set up and mounting experience than ever before. All in a wheel that almost doubles current industry impact standards while managing to achieve the lightest weight possible.

Our AeroFlange hubs are aerodynamically optimized, with wide bracing angles for increased strength and reduced spoke weight. They also benefit from the reduced weight and increased strength of ceramic SINC bearings and the legendary durability of DT Swiss’ EXP freehub internals.

Just amazing

Had a lot of rope end wheel sets and these are the best by far, I have the CLX Roval Rapide 50 special edition with the chrome hubs, they are so light and responsive truly amazing wheelset

Great wheels

I road my new wheels for the first time in an epic Boulder Roubaix with wind gusts clocked around 60mph. With one scary exception, these wheels remained stable in cross winds. Fantastic.

Great but not optimised for 26mm tyres

Had the S-Works 26mm RapidAir Tubeless tyres fitted and because the front wheel is so much wider than the tyre, there is a big chunk of carbon rim sticking out on the sides that is unprotected. I went through a small pothole and cracked the side of the rim because of this issue. What's worse, there is no 100% crash replacement in Asia and I had to fork out money to replace the front wheel. I don't think it should be stated that it's optimised for 26mm when this size tyre can't protect the rim. I switched to 28mm 2BR tyres and it's barely flush and much heavier. I believe this is a product flaw and hope Specialized can fix this. Besides this, the wheels are a good compromise between speed and responsiveness with great crosswind performance.

Amazing what the props put up with

Tried plenty of wheels, from Campy, to Enve and Zipp and everything in between, and now specialized. Nice wheels but a handful in gusty wind conditions. The Enve are still top of the line regarding how smooth you can ride in windy conditions, these ones keep you on the edge.

You get what you pay for

I own and race them all. Enve 5.6, Zipp 404, Hunts, Reynolds. These CLX2's are expensive.....but they're stiff, fast, and easy to maintain. The hub engagement is instant. Sprinting out of corners has never felt better. Same with descents. Are their cheaper wheels that are 90% as good? Kind of? In my opinion this might be the perfect wheelset. I run them with latex tubes and clinchers. Purchased a 2nd set and sold a few used wheels. They're that good.

Phenomenal Wheels Held Back by Bad Valves

Excellent, fast wheels. I had really enjoyed the previous generation but have been patiently waiting for tubeless. If you use Specialized’s own tubeless tires set-up is easy- can easily use a track valve. The only caveat- replace the valves- they are awful and leak very easily. Despite being deeper wheels the wheels are not super heavy. Cross winds can be somewhat sketchy but that’s hard to eliminate on deeper wheels. That said without any high winds the wheels just slice through the air. Engagement with the DT Swiss hubs is instantaneous. Definitely recommend- just knocked off a star for specialized not using better valves.
