The All-New Stumpjumper

All of you die-hard alloy fans can rejoice. Yes, the new Stumpjumper ST comes in an alloy version, and it may be the most radically designed alloy bike ever made. And with new tube shapes and an asymmetrical design, the Stumpjumper ST Alloy 29 is sure to exceed your expectations of how a trail bike should ride.

Our design goal for the new Stumpjumper was simple—build the ultimate trail bike, one that feels telepathic. And it turns out that this feeling all comes down to stiffness. Think of it this way: when the frame's telling your hands one thing and your feet another, your brain gets confused with the imbalance and the bike feels unstable. In order to fix this, we had to get to work on dialing-in the materials and shapes.

We continued down the suspension path with a custom Rx Trail Tune on both the fork and rear shock. Suspension performance is highly dependent on frame, wheel, and rider size, so we use our Rx Tune to get each bike to land in the middle of the adjustment spectrum, and this gives you the biggest possible range to fine-tune your ride. Another focal point of the tune was matching the suspension characteristics between wheel sizes—we developed a specific Rx Tune for each platform. So, no matter what wheel size you prefer, you'll get perfectly linear suspension.

Steps were also taken to make this bike easy to live with. Threaded bottom brackets make a triumphant return, and we made room for up to a 2.6" tire. You're also free to run whatever aftermarket rear shock you want, since we're using standard metric shocks. And customization is furthered with a Flip Chip that lets you to dial-in your Stumpy to your riding style. Switch it from High to Low and it drops your bottom bracket 6mm and slackens the head tube by half-a-degree. Little details also jump out to surprise you, like a newly designed ribbed chainstay protector that makes chain slap a thing of the past and nearly silences the drivetrain.

The build here is no-nonsense with a focus on dependable, high-performing parts, like Shimano SLX front and rear derailleurs, Tektro Gemini disc brakes, a FOX FLOAT Rhythm 34 fork with 130mm of travel, a FOX FLOAT DPS Performance rear shock with 120mm of travel, and wide alloy wheels.

  • The all-new alloy Stumpjumper ST frame features an M5 alloy front- and rear-end, an asymmetrical design, and our 29 Trail Geometry, so it's both capable and comfortable.

  • The FOX DPS Performance rear shock features our Rx Trail Tune, ensuring that no matter the frame or wheel size, your bike is dialed-in perfectly.

  • A FOX 34 Rhythm fork handles suspension duties up front with stiff stanchions and plenty of adjustability.

Winning the bike vs $$ race by a mile

I've ridden this bike for hundreds of miles over the last 10 months. It's is as solid today as day one, and far exceeds my ability to test its limits. Crushes PA roots and rocks with complete disregard for their well-being. Climbs well, but likely better with a lighter rider. Just this week the very first thing went wrong when i broke a spoke. Again, under a lighter rider that would probably still be in one piece. Highly recommended.

Quite Possibly the PERFECT Bike for me

Would I recommend this bike to a friend? Yep! Actually I already did, and he loves his Stumpy ST too! In Mid-Michigan we don't have the luxury of blazing downhill, so a normal weekly trip to the trail will have a pretty balanced blend of climbs and downhills where you have to create your own flow. This bike combines the perfect amount of pedal efficiency to rip uphill and is more than ready and capable to handle anything I throw at it in the lower part of the state. Last year I would struggle to keep up with my group of buddies both up hill and downhill, now they're all struggling to keep up with me. Being 5'9 and about 185lbs, I've got the bike dialed in almost perfectly and have yet to bottom out in my 75 miles while taking as large as some 6ft or so drops. I originally had an Ibis Ripmo AF on order but thanks to the national bike shortage I leaned on a local(ish) shop and fell into the ST. For my local terrain, I chose the ST over the normal long travel stumpy and really don't think I could be happier. This bike has a lot to offer on both sides of the hill.

ST version is the perfect in-between XC/Trail bike!

Perfect for smaller drops/technical terrain but can climb like a mountain goat! This bike is buttery smooth on flowy trails and is the perfect in-between XC/Trail bike. Even as a larger rider, the Shimano brakes and Fox suspension performs flawlessly! Smaller drops of 3-4 feet; rocky/rooty terrain; or flowy XC-style trails are all in this bikes wheelhouse! I'm about 6' 1"", 225 lbs and ride a size Large.

Incredibly Stable Platform

I purchased this bike a few weeks ago and through a handful of rides, absolutely no regrets. It is so stable at speed and have had no reason to lockout the shock for climbing to date. I simply can't feel any pedal bob when climbing to warrant the lockout. It is a touch heavy, but it just powers through the bumps and roots like a tank.

its a Tank

i'm 56 yrs old and havent had a bike in 40 years, living in south Florida USA, there arent any mountains, we do have some sick singletracks though, i used a friends competition bike and rode a local trail and was hooked, i gut the stumpjumper and we rode again and it was a totally different experience, this handled large roots and drops that beat me up pretty bad the first run through, the climbs were effortless and the fast winding returns were easily manageable, i get many compliments on the quality of the components from other riders, i may never use the full potential of this bike but it will definitely let me use mine.
