So much fun

This bike has allowed me to go places a regular bike wouldn’t. It’s fantastic fun, the throttle is a life saver on the hills in my community. I’ve had a few problems with the app connecting to the battery, but those have been resolved with a firmware update. Highly recommended.

Be careful before purchase

Read up on this bike before you buy. I have 500km on mine and now has suffered from the power loss issue. The bike electronics power down intermittently without warning and then do not properly restart. The electronics appear to have significant faults from a number of issues including a Y cable adapter, firmware issues and battery cradle and battery issues. There appears to be many people suffering the same issues and while specialized appears to be trying to deal with each one the reliability of this bike is questionable. I will gladly update this review if and when I am able to find an appropriate solution.

2+ year Globe Haul ST owner

I started my e-bike journey with a turbo Creo, which is a great bike… just overpriced in my opinion. We own two other brands of utility type bikes very similar to the Haul (Benno, and REI Co-op), and the Haul is by far the superior built bike. In fact we were so impressed with it that we bought another one for our oldest son for commuting to school. Very rugged, very quick, and simple to run and maintain. The Specialized Haul doesn’t have the bells and whistles of some of the competitors out there in terms of gauge/screen, fancy apps, etc… but it just outperforms any other e-bike we’ve owned, rented, or test rode. 2+ years going strong.

Half baked

Amazing bike but suffers from poor electronics. Unlike the entire Turbo line, the Globe series has a horrible app without any ability to control battery charge levels. USB charging also doesn’t work properly for iPhones. The lack of shocks also make the bike a fairly rough ride for your brain. More time and better design are needed.

Great bike crippled by bad electronics

Living with it longer than a bike reviewer you start to see the cracks in the foundation. The app is terrible, it still just constantly runs in the background with 100% GPS lock, and eats your battery. You cannot use the specialized app instead, it's not supported. The bluetooth is also locked to only that app, you can't pair a smartwatch or any other external devices. Want bike data in your That app (as far as I can tell) is the only way to lock the electronics on the bike. The lights work well but also have bad control, you cannot set a default lighting setting in the app or on the bike. You like setting 5? have fun pushing that button 5 times every time you start the bike. More complex things that could be added to the app like time of day lighting or brake light on decel are just a dream. Specialized, either fix your app and let this bike be great or open it to the modding community and let them do it for you. As it is I'm seriously considering returning this bike.

In love with the bike

Great bike. Such fun to ride and improvement to daily life. Every ride has been such joy and my significant other enjoys the pickup rides from the mass transit. Added fun to grocery shopping with saved time from traffic.

Love this bike! Very powerful up steep hills

I carried multiple kids on a long tail cargo bike without a motor, but I moved to a very hilly place and even after adding an after market motor the bike was was too difficult regularly. As a result, I was nervous about buying a bike online without being able to test drive it to confirm its power. I'm happy to share, the bike is powerful and very well make. I am able to climb steep hills with a passenger and I'm not even winded when I get to the top of the hill. I have some minor suggestions for improvement (shocks, bigger buttons on the controller), but overall I love the bike and would buy it again in a heartbeat. The whole family loves riding it. I added the passenger package and my seven year old can easily mount/dismount himself. I am happy I purchased the throttle (I knew this from previous experience with an e-bike--it helps when merging with traffic and getting started on hills) and the front basket. Also, the light is very powerful with multiple settings.

Nearly perfect

I am loving the Globe Haul ST as a commuter bike. It is loads of fun to ride and pushes the efficiency of a long bike commute. One shortcoming identified on my rides across town on bumpy city roads is instability in the battery mount, which causes the battery to loose contact with the terminals after hitting a few major road bumps. Loss of contact with the battery and terminal causes the bike power to shut down mid-ride. Zip ties between the frame and battery seem to have solved the issue, but it is a little disappointing that this work around would even be necessary. I’d like to see a more robust battery mount that can withstand treacherous roads that are navigated at the high speeds the haul affords.

We love our Haul

I have a Globe Haul Long Tail - and it's a family favorite. Weekends without cars? Count us in. Our bike now has about +600 miles on it, and it has been a grocery getter, farmer's market cargo, pickup kiddo from school, go get a coffee downtown preferred vehicle for our family. For the price and the customization options, can't imagine a better bike than this one... also, a great talking point, even after 1 year use we still get people pointing to us and asking about it!

Fun & Funky

I demo'd a bunch of bikes before I bought the Haul ST. This was far and away the most fun bike to ride and the quality felt good. I have about 100 miles on it and the good parts are: good battery life, fast, responsive, good accessories. The bad: Some weird squealing with the front tire. I haven't figured out yet what is rubbing. The electronics can be weird & don't always function the way they should. For instance sometimes when I try to increase the assist level, the lights turn off. Or sometimes the speed reading stops registering. None are a big deal but worth knowing about. Also - you don't necessarily need MIK accessories. I bought a basket from Ikea for the front and just zip-tied it to the front rack.

1 year update

After a year & about 2000 miles, no regrets. Bike's held up great with shifting, braking, battery life, electronics, and very minor crashes. Small drawbacks are easily overcome by the bike's sheer usefulness & fun factor. The throttle and front rack accessories have been useful and I used regular crates/bags on them just fine. Biggest issues have been getting flats on the rear tire--hard to get rear wheel off. More minor: size of the bike & location of battery can make it difficult to lock up to some bike racks, matte black paint chips easily, the rubber plugs for battery key/charger port fell off right away, disc brakes can rub a bit, & seat post's angle is awkward for my trailer's clamp attachment. The large built-in lights do a good job getting attention of car drivers, day or night. Bike is too heavy for stairs unless you're a powerlifter. But for rolling out of the garage and across town for work/errands across the seasons, this bike has been outstanding.

Good bike but be aware

The bike itself is great. Good battery life, tons of fun to ride however if you like getting nickel and dimed for accessories, this is the bike for you. Want to buy a child seat? Good luck finding a MIK HD compatible seat in the US that isn't expensive. Other seats won't work so we ordered one from the UK that was 1/2 the price and thats including the shipping. Want to add the basket to the front? Got to buy the rack, the basket and don't forget about the MIK HD adapter plate to attach the basket to the rack. Seems like its nothing but buying adapters and proprietary mounts for a standard (MIK HD) that hasn't caught on in the US yet. There are other electric bikes out there for the same or less money with more features and compatibility so make sure to do some research and be prepared to spend extra on the accessories for the accessories.

Great ride but several quality problems

Great bike with good power & range, fun handling, and smooth shifting. However, a couple of issues are holding me back from a decent review. First is seat adjustment - the two-clamp setup is difficult to adjust. After loosening the quick release, you need enough force to lift the 70-lb. bike off the wheels to make an adjustment. For a bike engineered around a universal fit concept, this is poorly done. Specialized recommends loosening the second clamp (a hex bolt) to reduce the pressure - not happening for a grocery run. Another issue is the brakes. The front began squealing several miles out of the box, and are still giving me issues two service visits later - frustrating on a costly purchase. Finally, the computer. Powering the bike on requires a long 4-5 second button press on a small button that doesn’t provide much tactile feedback. The software could use improvement as well; trip/odo/range/headlight settings need to be cycled to your preferred position every time you ride.

What a blast!

I wanted to write a novel about this bike to help paint the perfect picture, but the character limit on these reviews is too small. The bike is great, the box it comes in is great, the assembly process is great, the ride experience is great. If you're on the fence go test ride one, you'll be sold. Specialized please increase the review character limit! I want to gush about this bike and the awesome engineering all around!

I love this thing!

I've had this bike for five months now and couldn't be happier. I had an initial issue with the bike losing power but it was immediately corrected by Specialized and my dealer (probably a known defect) and zero issues since. I am joyful to ride this thing every day as I commute to work within the city or whenever I go grocery shopping. The bike is quick, powerful (for climbs), sturdy, has fantastic breaking power and very comfortable seating and tires. I recommend it hands down to whoever is considering an alternative to a car for commuting. Oh, the lights are fantastic as well. Only thing I'd improve is the on/off switch that's a bit too small.

Found my forever bike.

I had a different E-bike for about 2 years and it was heavy, had low weight capacity and seat was fixed. So, I sold it and continued my e-bike research. I chose the Globe Haul ST and bought from Bike Mart Fort Worth, and local support was important for me. I use the bike for commuting, family joy rides and date nights! Things I love + I ride in gear 8 or 9 and use the throttle up hills. + Globe Haul ST at 28 mph is next level! + I can raise the seat. + Locking system on electronic display. + The bell. + Tires feel solid on gravel and dirt. + Handlebars are really long. + Front headlight settings. + The bike is not as heavy. Things that still annoy me - Lowering my seat to ride moped style with passenger is really low, then it's difficult to raise up. - Buying throttle separate. - Want to fold up fixed passenger pegs. - Can't use rear panniers since I opted for the passenger kit. - Got an error message first day. The fix was easy, but annoying. - Cost is on the higher end.

Waiting on electrical fix...could be great eventually

I really liked the no-nonsense design, utility, and cost compared to other commuter ebike options. However, after just one week I'm dealing with what seems to be the same recurring electrical issues that others have mentioned. My local Specialized dealer did not know about these issues even though it seems to be the main comment everywhere this bike is mentioned. What is Specialized doing about this? Hoping it goes away? I will probably return it if a definite solution isn't available. This bike is no fun to ride without battery power. Bike shop seems to be doing what they can, but really disappointed with Specialized's side of this.

stop your searching and buy now!

I've been riding this bike for a couple of weeks now and I am hooked! I added the front panier and am using some existing Brooks bags for now. It is much more enjoyable to ride than most cargo bikes. Solid built, confident, quick, I have no fear leaning the bike into a turn. The upright position allows me to see over the top of cars making my commute safer including a stint on the light rail. I can roll right on the train, the ST wheelbase fits perfectly into their designated bike area (but not in the trains rack due to tire size) Simply put - it's a smile inducing ride! even in my current 30ish degree morning commute why 4 stars? Shoes hit rear paniers and back seat use the same mounts. Nit-picking. The cockpit the shifter, brake lever and headlight button sequence result in the included bell being too far away and I have to move my hand to use it, eventually I'll move it. Chain guard, I slap the chain on frame on every ride and will need to add something for protection

Fast and fun but not suited to my particular use.

The Haul is fast and fun to ride. But is seems to me that the relationship between power and derailleur gearing is not well-calibrated such that electric power in high gears is usually a bit too much and power in low gears ("Granny gears") is insufficient -- makes riding the heavy frame quite difficult. Specialized Rider Care seemed to have little/no idea of how the Haul actually rides (or how it's supposed to ride) and were zero help. I also bought a Como 5.0 IGH at the same time and find it much more to my liking. I especially like the belt drive and the auto-shifting lets me just do my 30-45 minutes of cardio every day without any fuss or bother. The Haul (with a grand total of 69 miles!) is for sale. I liked it, and I STILL like it, but it just isn't the right fit for me.

Amazing Urban Utility Bike

The only reason I don't give this bike a 5 star is because when I have the rear panniers on and I get on the bike I often hit the pannier with my heel and sometimes it knocks the pannier loose on the bottom. I wear a size 11 shoe and when I push off I bump the pannier. Now for all the great things about this bike. POWERFUL motor, even in level 1 assist it gives me enough assist and at the same time I get some cardio in my ride. I have a business where I ship my tea every day and with the panniers instead of setting the mail out for the postal lady I take it to the post office myself. Plus all my other errands around town get done on my Haul ST. ALOHA!!! and thank you SPECIALIZED for making an awesome affordable bike Chris Boling, President greenteaHAWAII.com

Electrical Issues Resolved: 5-STAR

I did my homework for months before I bought my Haul in August, read everything & watched a ton of videos. I wanted the name-brand quality of Specialized for my bike since I plan to use it for my work commute for many years. So I was super frustrated that in the first 25 miles to have the types of electrical issues described elsewhere. So I took my bike back four times to get the issues resolved, each time crossing off the list one possible electrical problem after another. The shop basically redid all the wiring and changed the battery (old key does not work on it). Specialized backed up their product. Maybe they had a bad production run? Not everyone has had these problems, but they fixed my bike. And now I've gone 200 joyful miles without any issue. I'll update at 500 & 1,000 miles. Despite the hassle of the repairs, Specialized demonstrated why I went with them in the first place. I love riding this bike!! It does everything you think it will. It's a third vehicle for our family.

Loving this bike

This has been a great bike! I'm not experiencing any of the electrical issues other people have noted. The bike shop I purchased it from was aware of the excess grease problem and were sure to check it prior to selling it. I've been using it to haul around 2 dogs in a trailer - just over 100lbs - it pulls them like a champ! The Burley Bark Ranger is a great dog trailer.

Disappointed - seemingly not production ready

5 miles into my inagural 20 mile ride on our local bike trail loop, an error code (b E032) appeared on the computer, then went away. By the midpoint of my ride, a different error code (c E032) appeared - the bike lost full power at this point. I tried to power the computer off, then on with no luck. After riding several miles with no power, it did finally power on, but now the battery was showing 1 bar, despite starting with a full charge. Within a couple of miles of the motor working again, the bike powered off altogether, including the front and rear lights, leaving me to ride the remaining 5ish miles home in the dark, with no power and getting yelled at by people on the trail for riding with no light after dark. The bike's handling dynamics and usability do truly feel incredible, but this model seems to have been sent to showrooms before it was ready. Full charge to no power in less than 15 miles, with multiple error codes flashing, before finally shutting off altogether.

Awesome

Approaching 1000 miles with it. I love it. The bike is not perfect. The rubber covers on battery charge port and keylock fell off immediately and they help keep rain out of those areas, so have to tape them in place & that's annoying. Not a lot of give so going over bumps can be a bit punishing unless you stand up. The seat post angle makes it awkward to attach a Burley trailer, but it's doable. Some disc brake rub. Getting the rear wheel off is hard for tube changes--anticipate you might have to take it in for that. Minor but would be nice if battery indicator had 4 levels at 25% each and front light would remember your setting. But overall this bike has been a gamechanger for commuting to work and running errands. It's fast, fun, and plenty of range for me. Became a big fan of the wide wheels that help a lot with stability and rolling over pavement issues. The throttle add-on is totally worth it.

Game Changer

My wife and I love our Globe Haul. It's been a game changer for us -- it's so much fun to ride and so versatile that we don't use our cars much anymore. We didn't necessarily buy it as a car replacement, but we found that our first choice is almost always to take the bike to work, shopping, errands around town, etc. It's just so much more fun and convenient. It's also very apparent that Specialized put a lot of time and engineering into the bike. Its high quality is apparent every time we ride it -- from the build, to the way it rides, to the flexibility of setup. The bike has performed flawlessly and has been an amazing product for us in every way. Absolutely love it and highly recommend.

Solid ride, gets HALF of BATTERY RANGE

Specialized makes really solid products and I really like this ebike around town. Has plenty of power and I would add a suspension system, but that's just my preference. The biggest issue I have with the bike is the marketing that states the battery gets "up to 60 miles" per charge. This is totally incorrect in my experience. I pushed the battery to full usage (spent it) to see how far I could go on a flat surface and using pedal assist level 1. I got about 28 miles and when got home, the battery read out was blinking its exhaustion. Either a bunch of users are having battery issues or the company is falsely advertising the battery range... which seems like this is the case as I have seen several other online reviews that match my claim.

Finally getting some miles on

After going through 2 separate issues bike not powering on and a faulty brake lever (replaced by the brake manufacturer, not Specialized) I am finally getting some miles on and enjoying this bike. Like others have reported getting many faults (with codes on HMI) that cause the power to cutoff while riding, but the bike is so much fun to ride this is easy to overlook. The only other issues I've had is with substandard hex head bolts stripping when removing to install accessories. I don't even mind the squeaky brakes after the warranty repair, just because there is so much that is great about this bike!

300 miles later

Wanted to post an update from my first review (So Far, So Good). We've added a bunch of accessories and I LOVE the attention to detail: front basket, rear seat and monkey bar, foot pegs. Sizing is great, you can tell everything was made with the Globe Haul in mind. My biggest gripe about the bike is the finicky battery and its longevity. We haven't gotten anywhere near the advertised mileage distance, regardless the power setting, and whether it's one person riding or two little kids using it. Usually around 30 miles in the battery is toast. Next is the finicky computer: about 1/3 of the time it suddenly turns off, reads an "error" of some sort, or says the battery is dead even though we know it's fully charged. We have to turn it on and off multiple times or simply wait 15 minutes and then it randomly comes back online. But it sure is inconvenient trying to get places on time (or even just get home) and having to worry if the $2700 bike will even turn on.

I am a big man but I would say I get around 40 to 50 miles in battery range , tough to say precisely since when it gets low I charge it. I have had mine for 3 weeks and have 320 miles on it. Looking forward to many many more. the battery is removable and you will want to charge it indoors, the battery charger gets hot and its overall better for battery life to store at room temp.

So far, so great!

Newbie here, this is my first ever e-bike purchase. I did a lot of research but it seemed like everyday there was another company to consider. Among other reasons, I went with the more expensive Specialized (over lectric, aventon, etc) because I liked the idea that this company is going to be around for a long time. My goal was to reduce the amount of car driving I do. Every day consists of 4-5 errands in the car and I DREAD every one of them. I run my kids everywhere so an extra seat was a requirement, along with adjustable measurements so the kids could take themselves and each other places if need be. I also needed a reliable motor/battery/range because every errand involved 200-300 elevation gain at the least. The Haul ST has met these requirements with flying colors.

Amazing

I'm blown away by the power & handling. I wish you had different length stems available though. It is fine for a short ride but I'd prefer to be more stretched out for a longer ride.

Short battery life

I've never been able to get more than 33 miles on a charge and I mostly use it at levels 1-3. Disappointing.

Checks all the boxes

We've had this bike for 2 months and 300 miles. We're super happy with the finish and ride quality. We bought it to cut out car trips, and it has! The kids love it. I built it at home to avoid the $200 fee. It was straight forward, though I'm comfortable with maintenance. Adding accessories (front rack, handlebar, wheel cover, pegs) was a bit of a pain. Not hard, just finicky. Our kids (7, 5 and 2) love riding on back. The older ones use the passenger kit, our toddler uses a Burley Dash. My wife and I are very different heights (5' 4'' and 6' 1'') , but the bike accommodates both of us really well. Motor power is great. I'm an avid cyclist, and set the power level at 3/5. At that setting I can easily top out the 28 MPH limit on flat, and cruise up most of our local hills. Negatives: One, the bike is heavy. Someone smaller might have issues handling it when not riding. Two, it's annoying that it requires a hex to change the seat height, and that the height adjusts in two places.

Amazingly versatile! Easy to assemble! Love this bike!

I have had the Globe Haul for a couple of weeks and it is the perfect bike! Easily adjusted to the extra help of e-assist. I got the throttle and so glad I did! I can switch to throttle and back to e-assist to get that extra help up hills or just for when I feel lazy. You could even run around just using the throttle if you want. Took about an hour to assemble. Easy to do and great instructions. Most of the bike is already together, just adding the handlebars, pedals, and small items on the handle bars. Throttle was plug and play with the app. Did take a while to charge, but it also has lasted for several 15-20 mile rides and still going. 20mph on throttle. Easily faster than that with e-assist, with top speed at 27-28mph. Excellent work, Specialized!!

A little underwhelming, fun to ride, but maybe not the best choice if you live in a hilly area.

I bought this without a test ride mainly on the strength of Bicycling Magazine's "2023 bicycle of the year" award, and it's okay, but not great. We like the huge size adjustment, allowing my short wife and daughter to use the same bike I can also fit. My first ride was 14 miles to pickup my car from the mechanic (Castro Valley CA to Dublin CA) and going over the hills brought out a few shortcomings. There is only one chainring in front, which means that the gear ratios available are limited. There's no gear low enough to do anything really steep, like my driveway, without battery assist (although when I boosted the assist to 4 I managed to get up), and no really high gear to keep you from spinning dangerously fast on long downhills. I had hoped to ferry my daughter to middle school across town, but the short wheel base will put her face right up against my back, and I'm worried it won't work too well. A confirmed road biker's first foray into the e-bike phenom.

The Haul ST is a winner

What's the first thing I looked at when I received my Haul ST? THE WELDS. They are aircraft quality - aluminum can be a challenge. The attention to detail is sublime. Well designed and cleverly set up do just about ANYTHING you want with it. I intend to use mine for sport touring - after all, that's what the ST means... I've already loaded mine to max capacity to test the motor, I've been told it's around 90nm of torque and it doesn't seem to lose power with a heavy load. That's remarkable. With it's short wheelbase and 20" wheels you REALLY need to pay attention to the road surface at high speed. Let's just say it doesn't suffer fools gladly. Oh, and the BRAKES! OMG. They can literally "haul" this bike down rapidly. I spent a little time properly bedding them in - and it was worth the half an hour it took to do it. I haven't been this pleased with an initial purchase for years. Well done Specialized!

Just buy it, seriously!

Had this bike for half a day and it is fantastic; I've had a smile on my face since I picked it up at the LBS. Great build quality, the acceleration of the motor is right in step with your pedaling and has a surprising amount of torque with the throttle given the weight. Had no problems keeping up with traffic and hills. Has great options to add storage and racks (highly recommend the one for the front). Can't wait to test it more with my commute and errands around town, but judging by my riding today, it's only going get better!

Perfect bike for running errands!

This bike is perfect for anyone living in or near a city. Never search for parking again! I love this bike for grocery shopping or heading to a local restaurant, it's so much fun! The bike is rugged and can carry a ton of groceries. I was initially concerned a utilitarian bike's weight would be an issue, but it handles very well and when using the "lock" feature on the app, would-be thieves will think twice about trying to take away this bike.

The perfect utility bike

While the HAUL ST has not replaced my car, it has certainly reduced the time I spend in it, by A LOT. The vast majority of my daily tasks can be accomplished with the extremely versatile HAUL ST. Adding a front rack and panniers make shopping trips super easy. TONS of places to put stuff. I don't need to look for car parking spaces, pay for parking and the removable battery is super convenient for charging off the bike, This bike is also FUN! Instead of sitting in traffic or looking for car parking spaces, this thing has put a serious smile on my face. I totally recommend it.

Zip Zip Hooray

Super fun and fast bike. Not much a cyclist myself but have wanted an option I can use for runs to the gym/grocery store a few miles away to avoid using my car as much. This bike rips up the hill from the grocery store with very minimal effort.

Hauls a$$!

I love my Haul ST! It rides like a dream and really does what it promises: hauls. It's easy to get up to max speed, even with my groceries all over it. The build was easier than I thought it would be and so was making sure the bike was updated thru the app. Brakes are powerful and confidence inspiring, as is the over ride quality. The bike is a little heavy but what did I expect from a cargo ebike? Would definitely recommend.
