Say goodbye to your side knobs

Purchased this tire to replace my rear Butcher T9 to have better puncture protection and have less rolling resistance. While the general performance was as expected just after two months of moderate use I lost 3 side knobs.

Apprehensive to try but fell in love

The new tread patterns and compounds from Specialized are incredible. I’ve been a Maxxis guy for five years and was apprehensive about switching to Specialized tires. But I’m really glad I did. As with any tire switch, it takes a minute to get to know the tire's character. Once I did, I was very impressed. The soft T9 compound grips super well. Fresh ones pick up dirt off the trail and throw it in the air. The soft compound is every bit as good as or better than MaxxGrip and lasts almost twice as long at nearly half the price. Specialized offers a variety of patterns, casings, and compounds to perfectly fit your riding style!

Awesome

Love these tires! I beat the heck out of them while riding double black diamond downhill trails on my Specialized Turbo Kenevo emtb and they take the punishment really well. Top level downhill tire and much cheaper than the rest, especially when on sale!

High rolling resistance

I was looking for something to replace the discontinued Slaughter. With this tire on the rear, the bike loses speed immediately as I stop pedaling. Not recommended for bike park riding. I will try to trim the center knobs. Please bring back the Slaughter with the gravity casing. I did not try the newer version of the Butcher on the rear, but it would probably be a better choice in this case.

Great tire, but wish they made a gravity casing tire in just T7 compund

We use the gravity casing Eliminators on the rear of our Levos with Butcher Trail T7s on the front. I think the gravity casing is appropriate for the Levo e-mtb on the rear. The problem is that the side lugs on this tire are made with the T9 compound and they die too fast. An All-T7 compound tire would be great - the lugs on the Trail T7s don't seem to die as fast, but the casing just seems to not hold up. An ideal e-bike tire in my opinion would be T7 all around (or maybe T5/T7?) with the beefy gravity casing. This is all on a pair of his/her Levos with 2500 miles of single track on each. We ride everything from PNW hero-dirt to Moab slickrock to Sedona shattered rock/sand - anything we can ride basically. We are single track trail riders - not park riders.

Eliminator is a greaet all around treil and enduro tire at a great price. Current go-to rear tire.

This has become my go-to rear tire for my trail and enduro bikes. I think the Butcher and Eliminator are similar to the Maxis DHF/DHR tire family as grip and casing are similar to EXO but at half the cost. I use Grid Gravity and T7/T9 on my enduro bike and Grid Trail and T7 on my trail bike. They also wear very well. I usually stock up when these go on sale several times a year. Overall I am a big fan!

Rear tire

Good traction on trails. This is the second dual compound tire I have had. The softer compound wears very fast and doesn’t have a long lasting grip. I have also noticed the side walls on these tires track gown rather quickly. I do ride a lot of rock gardens. After 200 miles the belt lines on the side of the tire start to show.

Excellent

I ran the Eliminator 2.6 and 2.3 as rear tires this year (really about 2.5” and 2.4” respectively) in almost exclusively dry, dusty conditions, mostly hard or loose over hard, with some slightly loamy, rocky, and rooty bits here in CO. I got about 7-8 heavy bike park days on the 2.6 before the intermediate and edge knobs started tearing off. I ran a Butcher 2.6 up front most of the season, but swapped on an Eliminator 2.6 for the last few rides. I really like it even on the front. Good grip, predictable, fast-rolling, and tough. I had zero flats. Price is the best among major brands for DH tires.

Love this tire for variety

Love this tire for variety of conditions. Fast rolling on hard pack and gravel, but still grippy on technical down hills. Easy to mount and sealed right up as tubeless. 2.6” adds a little cush to the hardtail.

Best tyre I've used

In the past I had always used Maxxis, mainly just because everyone else seemed to be riding them. It wasn't until I got my Levo with these on it that I found out how good a tyre can be. For the riding I do (mid level at best) and the trails (a mix of stuff - from fire trails to damp, rocky forest single track) I have found these the best all round tyre I've used in a very long time.

My Goto tire

This has become my goto rear tire. Harder T7 compound in the center for good rolling and softer T9 on the outer knobbies for better traction. I have been going with the Grid Gravity sidewalls for better protection in the sharp rocks of the Tucson desert riding.

Great Tire For the soft terrain

The tires I had on my Stumpjumper that did so well on the hard packed dirt trails I used to ride in Maryland, just weren't cutting it in the softer, sandier trails I now ride in Arizona. After discussing my needs at a local Specialized dealer, he recommended I go with the Eliminator. Best biking advice I've gotten in a while! These tires dig in and hold the ground! I have much more confidence in the turns at higher speeds now. I tend to run a higher PSI, and they grip very nicely. I'm sure they would work well under most conditions. I've been riding Specialized tires since 1982 (Touring 2) and will do so until I can't ride anymore!

Wears too fast - need T7 version in grid gravity

Why does the enTIRE world insist on not making any gravity casings in durable compounds? Probably because these things wear out so fast they are printing money. T9 does not belong on the back of your bike unless you are sponsored and run fresh rubber every race. The sideknobs on these lasted me about 8 rides before being shot. Make the Grid Gravity in a full T7 and then we would be talking. Its a shame as they could have knocked it out of the park with this one.

I bought the Eliminator as

I bought the Eliminator as a tire to throw on as a rear for faster tracks with hard pack conditions. It rolls fast and has great hook up. When conditions get loose up here in Tahoe it can get squirrelly, but still holds its own. It is not a tire I leave on all season for where I live and ride. I also prefer the Gravity casing for extra durability. For my style it’s worth the little extra weight.

Missing side knobs

Pros: Price No punctures Fast rolling Cons: Side knobs fall off too easily Really wanted to love this tire. Used them in rough downhill conditions on my 21 Enduro. I was extremely pleased that I never punctured. Unfortunately the side knobs did not hold up as well as the rest of the tire. They started falling off way to quickly. Really wish this tire was made in full t7 compound.
