No need to fret—we haven't forgotten about all you alloy fans out there. In fact, the new Stumpjumper Comp Alloy 29 with 12-speed SRAM NX Eagle may be the most radically designed alloy bike ever made. For real, though. And with new tube shapes and an asymmetrical design, it's going to exceed all of your expectations of how a trail bike should ride.

Our design goal for the new Stumpjumper was simple—build the ultimate trail bike, one that feels telepathic. And it turns out that this feeling all comes down to stiffness. Think of it this way: when the frame's telling your hands one thing and your feet another, your brain gets confused with the imbalance and the bike feels unstable. In order to fix this, we had to get to work on dialing-in the material and shapes.

We continued down the suspension path with a custom Rx Trail Tune on both the fork and rear shock. Suspension performance is highly dependent on frame, wheel, and rider size, so we use our Rx Tune to get each bike to land in the middle of the adjustment spectrum, and this gives you the biggest possible range to fine-tune your ride. Another focal point of the tune was matching the suspension characteristics between wheel sizes—we developed a specific Rx Tune for each platform. So, no matter what wheel size you prefer, you'll get perfectly linear suspension.

Steps were also taken to make this bike easy to live with. Threaded bottom brackets make a triumphant return, and we made room for up to a 2.6'' tire. You're also free to run whatever aftermarket rear shock you want, since we're using standard metric shocks. And customization is furthered with a Flip Chip that lets you to dial-in your Stumpy to your riding style. Switch it from High to Low and it drops your bottom bracket 6mm and slackens the head tube by half-a-degree. Little details also jump out to surprise you, like a newly designed ribbed chainstay protector that makes chain slap a thing of the past and nearly silences the drivetrain.

The build on this Comp model comes with a list of components that deliver undeniable quality, like a 12-speed SRAM NX Eagle drivetrain, SRAM Guide R disc brakes, FOX front and rear suspension, and Roval Traverse 29 wheels.

  • The completely redesigned alloy Stumpjumper frame features an M5 alloy front- and rear-end, an asymmetrical design, and our 29 Trail Geometry, so it's just the right amount of both capable and comfortable.

  • The FOX DPS Performance rear shock features our Rx Trail Tune, ensuring that no matter the wheel or frame size, your bike is dialed-in perfectly.

  • SRAM's 12-speed NX Eagle groupset features a wide gear range that delivers climbing and descending efficiency in spades.

Everthing I need except...

Living right by Aliso Woods Canyon trails in Orange County I get to ride 1-2 times a week when possible. These trails vary quite a bit on difficulty and steepness. After wearing out my first mtb here, a wish list of upgrades for the next bike was born: dropper post for quick transition from climbing to downhill etc, Eagle gear for steep climbs, 170mm cranks to help with strikes on rocky sections, wider tires for better traction when the downhill trails get silty, more travel than the 120mm on that trail mtb, and bigger brake discs since I ride them way too much and get brake fade on long sections. The Stumpjumper crossed off everything on the list and it's still going strong a year later. The only thing I would add to it is an engine. Hah

All Around Beast

After putting a full season on the Stumpy, I really only have good things to say. Granted I've made several upgrades including a beefier rear shock, new brakes and replacing the NX with GX. That being said, I'm not sure you can find a better all around bike. From lift serviced days to 5k of pedaling, this bike is sure to leave you with a smile on your face.

Servus, ich bin einige Bikes gefahren, bevor ich mich für das Stumpy entschieden habe. Es ist unglaublich handlich. Gut bergauf und der Knaller bergab.

Great, but BEEFY

This bike has been an absolute beast on the trails. I've put in around 300 miles so far and love it. It eats rocks for breakfast, corners like mad, and withstands the biggest hits. A few things I would change though- it's pretty heavy and feels like it, the rear hub engagement leaves you wanting a lot more, and the Guide R brakes are a adequate at best. These things don't detract much from the overall awesomeness of this bike, though. Other than those few things, the bike is a pretty incredible all rounder. It's great for park days, shuttling, long days in the saddle, XC jaunts, trail rips, curb hopping, whatever. It does it all.

great frame and suspension

I've been riding 2-3 times a week for 20 years. This was my 3rd alloy Stumpjumper in row. I took my new bike straight from the shop up to the Australia's alpine region . I put the bike on the chair lift and then rode for 3 days straight down steep rocky trails and it could not have been more fun. The bike was fast, safe and comfy. It was super impressive. In my home town there are 4 mountain bike tracks within about 20 mins of my house. Three of them are a mix of trail and cross country and the fourth is fully cross country. After riding on these tracks for about 2 weeks I realised the bike is just too heavy to go uphill fast. The bike is average on a slight uphill gradients, but as soon as the gradient increases and there's no momentum in the rims the bike is seriously hard work. I replaced the dropper post with a standard post as I was never going to use it. I then splurged and replaced the ridiculously heavy wheel set with a carbon set with 2.25 tyres. Those two changes took over a kilo off the weight and definitely improved performance. After a few more rides the GX derailleur broke, which according my bike shop is super common as they have a known design flaw which causes a pin to bend. As the rest of the running gear was also super heavy I decided to replace the lot with SRAM X01 gear. Note, putting on SRAM X01 cassette involves replacing some hidden part that cost $180 (AUD) which is super annoying. So with light rims, 2.25 tyres, no dropper post and SRAM X01 running gear the bike is awesome. It is super balanced and very quick. Specialized have absolutely nailed the frame geometry. The bike is now super stiff around corners, smashes uneven terrain and loves the jumps. However, it's pretty disappointing the components that come with the bike are so cheap and heavy. If you don't drive to the top of trails or take a chair lift, you will be disappointed peddling uphill.

Fantastic Trail Bike, Love it!

Recently purchased two 2019 Stumpjumpers (one for my wife) and we are enjoying these bikes to no end. Fantastic balance, handling, control and simply a joy to ride. You have run into something when a lot of your day at work is spent thinking about whether the trails are closed due to rain and when you can out again to ride?

An absolute weapon!

This bike is amazing value and just does everything extremely well! good at climbing with the wide range cassette, and then goes like a jet on the downhill sections. I'm still pushing the envelope to see what the Stumpy's full capabilities are but I keep finding the bike has more in reserve and is way ahead of what I can do! It gives me total confidence to keep pushing. All my friends are envious too haha
