In the helmet world, there's an unwritten rule that many designs seem to follow: aerodynamics, weight, aesthetics, and ventilation—pick two, there's your helmet. In our typical fashion, however, we don’t follow these norms—we innovate. And it’s precisely this mentality that led us to the Airnet with MIPS—patented protection against "rotational violence" caused by angled impacts. Loosely based upon the leather “hairnets” that cyclists used to wear before protection was a priority, we took their ventilation and classic style and incorporated them into a modern helmet design that combines all of the above features.

Although we had the hairnet shape in mind during the design phase, we started by looking at the category leader in aerodynamic road helmets, our S-Works Evade, to see if we could make a classic style that wasn't only aesthetically pleasing, but also helped in the aero department. What we came up with is our third fastest helmet, behind the TT and Evade, that's lightweight, well ventilated, and looking good no matter your riding style.

The Airnet with MIPS also features our ultra-light Mindset HairPort micro-dial fit system making the perfect fit easily achievable, our drirelease® Merino wool pads provide you with increased comfort, odour control, and sweat management. You'll also find that it's equipped with the burgeoning MIPS technology (Multi-Directional Impact Protection System). Clean and simple, the Airnet helmet with MIPS is the ideal blend of functionality and performance for riders seeking both adventure and style.

  • Ultra-light Mindset HairPort micro-dial fit system with height adjustability for the perfect fit.

  • 4th Dimension Cooling System with deep internal channels, large vents, and aligned exhaust ports.

  • Composite matrix internal reinforcement allows larger vents for enhanced cooling.

  • Vent grippers integrated at the front and rear for secure eyewear storage.

  • drirelease® Merino wool pads for increased comfort and sweat/ temperature management.

  • Thin, soft, and lightweight 4X DryLite webbing won’t stretch out with sweat or water.

  • Tri-Fix web splitter for improved comfort and ease of strap adjustments.

  • Instrap webbing system for ultra-light construction and security.

  • Reflective decals for increased visibility to motorists in low-light conditions.

  • MIPS-equipped.

Mein absoluter Favorit

LG

Best-fitting Spez helmet for me

I had some issues with the Echelon and Propero helmets sitting too high above my ears, but the Airnet sits low and comfy. Enough ventilation for me and the medium leaves room for a winter layer beneath. Favorite helmet I've ever owned!

Couple performance quirks

I currently own this Airnet MIPS and a Giro Synthe (no MIPS liner). I really wanted to love the Airnet. I think it looks sleek, vents are nice, and the actual helmet fit feels perfect. My two issues with the helmet are as follows. First, the padding collects lots of sweat. I am bald by choice and sweaty by genetics. During tough efforts, putting your head down causes so much sweat to run down your face and into glasses. I believe if i took some padding out, it would not collect as much sweat and be more manageable. Second, is the straps are oddly positioned. Not sure if I just got an off helmet, but the front of the straps are so far forward, they almost inhibit my peripheral vision and it is not comfortable having the straps so close to my eyes. With the front straps so far forward, I also find that the back straps are forward and rub against the back of my ears which gets annoying. My Giro Synthe fits more comfortable but is an inferior helmet in a crash scenario. I have unfortunately turned to only using my Airnet on cold mornings and use the Synthe pretty much every other ride/race. I really love the style and function of Specialized helmets, but maybe they just aren't fit for my head (I have also tried on an Evade helmet from a friend and found similar issues with the straps).

It's nice if you've got hair.

It's a very nice helmet -- a bit noisier than others at speed, but it flows lots of air. If you don't have a lot of hair, either through genetics or choice, this might not be the helmet for you. The front padding has a lot of firm (hard) areas (temples, center forehead) that may poke and irritate you.
