The battery extender should have the Needed cable included and the $450 price. $1000 for an extra large battery is greedy. I do love my Como belt drive. Should have a bigger battery for more range.
Achei fantástico!
I tried to submit a well thought out and potentially helpful review but it was rejected for being too long. I subtracted a star from Specialized as a company Buy it if you need it. You can't afford it and the price is unjustifiable, but buy it anyway because you're a fool like me.
Grazie
Cable plug to frame connection is on side of down tube close to left pedal/foot. If not perfectly installed, it's easy to bump the plug loose. While I understand you want 2 O-rings to provide a weather tight connection, I need to get on my hands and knees and use reading glasses and a head light to see proper orientation and securely lock in place. With this in mind, range on primary battery may be much lower anticipated. A recent 26 mile ride on a logging road used 86% of primary battery. Cut ride short because I couldn't get the extended range battery properly locked in. When cord got bumped loose motor temporarily shut down. (Note: use with Creo 2 SL expert. Also have S-Works Roubaix. I'm glad I didn't buy the S-Works Creo 2.)
It changed the way I plan my bike rides, about 50% more time enjoying pedaling, more often with turbo assist when I get tired ( am 73 ). Definitely recommend this addition despite the high price !
Response from Specialized
A disposizione.
While I like the bike and range extending battery- the cable connecting the battery to the bike is awful. I am on this site to buy my 5th cable- since it breaks in normal use.
Like other reviewers, I love this battery and consider it an essential addition to the Creo SL. I'll add a setup trick that others haven't mentioned: the Creo can be set to drain both batteries equally, or one battery first. I've set mine to drain the RE battery FIRST. Since my daily loop can be finished on the RE battery (mostly), I only charge the internal battery every 1-2 weeks, massively extending its lifetime. Much cheaper to replace the RE battery when it wears out than the internal.
There should be a cable included, even diff bike may need diff length, it should be able to select at purchase. Also the click collect shop closed early than normal opening hour, there was no call from the shop. I end up have to call and arrange to myself, and go second time to get it...
all good and expected apart from needing to order a separate cable to connect to the bike. That's not made clear in the description. Factor in another £30 GBP for the cable and don't forget their are a few cable variations and need to choose one that's specific to you bike.
After having removed the internal battery to fly the bike to Europe. All I had was one extender range battery to use. It lasted through the Strade Bianche Granfondo medio 89 km 1500 meter bike ride with two bars left. Granted I am a small female in eco mode but that range is still amazing.
Excellent, pretty much doubles my range....I now have more range than riders on 700wh batteries.
Just did a 37km ride (750 meters climbing) in 1h40. Switched between sport and turbo (vado SL) and still had a combined range of 80km left. Would totally recommend. It is expensive, but looking for a second one if it can be daisy-chained.
The Range Extender gives me peace of mind when riding with the many cycling clubs that I ride with. I don't have range anxiety as it adds around 20 miles, based on my typical use. I burn around 2-2.3% of battery capacity per mile. So, with this battery adding 50% and once you subtract 5% for battery health, yielding 45% and divide that by 2.3% you'll find it adds (for me) around 19-1/2 miles range. When combined with the internal battery, my typical ride of from 45 to 56 miles is not a problem, range wise. My wife's battery failed after 2 months and Specialized had a local shop exchange it the same day. Not bad....
When you have long climbs, it will use alot of battery. I have no worries when I go on long ride with climbing. A great product.
Nice to never run out of charge on my Creo. This battery makes Creos a better choice than any Trek Bike(Trek batteries are an ugly external, mounted box ). This Range Extender is easy to place. Doesn't stand out and easy to use. You can charge battery and bike at the same time with a dual cord. You can select to use the extender battery b4 bike's battery on a ride to make the switch between 2 batteries. I find that selection helps me to judge how much charge I have left to work with on a long ride. My formula: 40 + bring one extender. 60+ bring 2 if you ride between sport and turbo. 80+ use your Mission Control app to program your ride. I do not like to ride with less than 20% power. The bike becomes unpredictable and goes into conservation mode.... so you don't get maximum power. If you are finishing a long ride with hills or that sprint to finish.... you don't want low energy. AND if you get lost on a ride, you need to have reserves for the unplanned extra miles. All in all. I love it. Considering a 3rd battery if our rides go over 100miles.
I bought my Creo Carbon Turbo in May 2020. I have ridden it a bit over 3000 miles since buying it. Most of my rides are in the 45 to 60 mile range with elevation gains of 1500 to 2500 vertical feet, and I use Sports mode almost exclusively. Without the Range Extender battery it would simply not be possible to do most of these ride. Pushing as hard as I do, comparable to my energy output on the normal road bike only faster, I eat through about 5 to 6 miles per bar on the display. With the Range Extender this gives me a possible range of 75 to 90 miles, although based on the number of bars I am showing when I get home, 75 to 80 miles are more likely. The average speeds on these rides are from 18 to 20 MPH. I am not mentioning these speeds to brag. I am trying to give a realistic assessment of what you can expect in terms of power and distance with the combined integrated battery and range extender. I really enjoy these rides. I am seriously considering purchasing a second range extender, although I suspect that I am more likely to run out of energy myself before I run out of battery power. I believe that the range extender is an essential adjunct to any of the Creo SL models, particularly for someone wanting to do longer rides, especially if you want to use Turbo mode which consumes battery power very quickly. The real joy of these bikes is to ride fast and climb with relative ease. To do that Sports mode really is the only way to go. The battery longevity numbers published by Specialized are applicable to Eco mode which barely compensates for the weight of the bike, and not much more. In response to the Bottom Line Question, I did recommend it to a friend who bought a Creo after seeing mine. He bought it and has never complained.
