Purist WaterGate Water Bottle

The caps on these bottles WILL build up black sludge/residue from past backwash so be very good at cleaning the rubber spout! If you just simply rinse them out like regular spouts it is not enough. I don't know why they are so good at keeping germs on the spout compared to Specialized regular plastic-type spouts which do not do this..

Slightly finicky and leaky cap.

These are a perfect water bottle, and the price point is hard to beat. The cap on his actually allows for more output than normal water bottles. This is really nice, as you really only need to squeeze once to get what you need. I’ve rinsed well after every ride and have had no issue with build up or taste.

Me gusta mucho la uso solo para llevar agua a la montaña y la mantiene fresca. No hay goteo ni derrames así este abierta. Es muy practica y el tamaño es perfecto para cargarla en vertical sobre el tubo del sillín. La uso con un porta bidón Specialized y funciona de maravilla, seguro de cargar, fácil de quitar y colocar.

Lo que se espera de un bidon como este, no hay combios organolepticos en la bebida y el sistema anti derrames no deja pasar ni una gota asi este abierta la valvula. No se si este sea un producto enfocado para carretera pero yo practico MTB y me hubiera gustado que trajera un capuchon o tapa para proteger del barro. Ojala vendan un accesorio para proteger la boquilla. El uso genera rayones en la superficie y con el tiempo la pintura de la decoracion no durará por siempre, aclaro que la pintura no es facil de pelar por la fricción.

Macht was sie soll. Von der schwarzen Farbe/Optik hätte ich mir etwas mehr Qualität erwartet - das sieht nicht so sauber aus.

Purist is the way to go for clean tasting liquids! "Watergate" cap kinda sucks though. You have to squeeze kinda hard to get the last 20% of liquid out of bottle. I like the "Big Mouth" cap better. I got the "woodmark smoke" bottle and it gets scuffed easily with the specialized rib cage II cages i have but i guess who cares. I think all bottle brands get scuffed/scratched easy which is why they are cheap. The "purist" coating is what its all about for me though.

A water bottle has 2 jobs to do: hold water securely, and deliver it to your mouth when you want it. The Watergate caps fail spectacularly at that second job. It's next to impossible to actually get the water out of the bottle. The caps also don't allow any air back in, so the bottle remains scrunched/deformed after you drink, so it won't fit securely in a bottle cage. I've never come so close to throwing away a bottle in the middle of a ride. These were an infuriating waste of money.

It takes a lot of squeeze to pressurize the bottle to release its contents. When it gets low it is almost impossible

It’s great that you can leave the top open but only get liquid out when you squeeze the bottle. It doesn’t leak when it’s like this. No fiddling around whilst on the move. Excellent.

It does the job

Purist bottles are the best, hard stop, but this WaterGate cap makes me want to scream. The one positive of the cap is that it does not leak, even in the open position. But the negatives, my goodness. You have to squeeze the bottle so hard to get water to come through that if you're tired in any way you might not be able to activate it. And when the seal finally does open, you're going to shoot water into your mouth and down your throat at a rate that could choke you if you're not ready for it. AND the valve doesn't bring air back inside in the reverse direction so now your bottle is permanently squished until you can get on a flat and unscrew it enough to let air back in. This thing is terrible. I have other caps that work just fine so no losses here, but man, don't buy this cap — buy a Purist with a standard cap.

Tastes like water, not plastic. But I find it easier to just remove the cap than to squeeze the bottle hard enough to get past the cap seal.

So far these two bottles have been great. Easy to use, leak proof and have left very very little taste after using electrolyte pills. However, I wish the bottle were bigger. I live in the Central Valley of CA, and my Summer rides are often at temps over 100, so I need lots of water.
