Sure, you can decide to buck the status quo, or you could just huck it. We chose the latter with the all-new Status 140. The result? Not just a new bike, but an entirely new platform that's changed our whole understanding of what a do-it-all bike can actually do.

But what's with the different-sized wheels? So glad you asked.Take the smaller wheelbase and shorter chainstays made possible by having a 27.5-inch rear wheel and pair them with the increased traction and rolling speed made possible by a 29-inch wheel up front, and you've got a bike that's ready to throw down.

Or, think of it as the ability to flick right but plow left into a tech-y switchback, straight-line it through that longer-than-you-thought stretch of chunder without breaking a sweat, and throw down some serious flair on your local flow trail, all in one nice, tight package. The Status 140 also adopts our Style-Specific Sizing that not only lets you find the right fit, but also get your desired reach and wheelbase to really let your preferred handling characteristics come alive.

  • Focused on fun and featuring our Mixed-Wheel Trail Geometry, the Status frameset is a fewer frills, all thrills FSR delivery system crafted from our hard-charging—and hard-wearing—M5 alloy and is designed not only to take a hit, but keep asking for more.

  • Fox's FLOAT 36 Rhythm calls the venerable Grip damper into service in the name of rowdy riders everywhere, offering impressively controlled travel with plenty of trail-feel that puts confidence on speed dial. The two-position Sweep adjustment ensures the FLOAT 36 Rhythm is right at home dealing out its 140-millimeters of travel in just about any environment while 36-millimeter stanchions promise plenty of stiffness for precise handling at the limit.

  • Quality suspension unlocks some serious free speed, so to slow it all down, we tasked SRAM's proven Code R brakes with stopping duties. Forged four-piston calipers offer serious stopping power, while 200-millimeter rotors on both ends of the bike promise plenty of fade-free bite when it matters.

Super smooth but needs a little adaptation

This bike is great fun to ride but the 32 x 50 gear comb. is not low enough, even with the 27.5 rear tire. A 30T chain ring would have been a better choice. I think The gear ratio may accounts for climbing complaints. This bike is NOT a climbing pig. It is a great climber until you hit the +16% grade and you find yourself pressing the shifter desperately hoping for a lower gear. Other observations: Dropper seat post is sluggish up and down. Cockpit is too far back. 32 inch handlebar is too wide for twisty tree lined trails. Frame and suspension make the descents as smooth and fast as a slide in the waterpark. I totally confident that with $100 investment and a little elbow grease this is going to be a great ride and still good value for money.

I have had this bike for about 1 month and it rides so smooth. I recently had a hardtail and going to the status 140 was a good purchase. I bought the bike when it was on sale for $3,299 and it is great value. Perfect bike and dream bike

Fun bike... when it works

I bought this bike a the end of march from specialized.com. The bike took three weeks to arrive, which was frustrating to say the least but this was advertised up front from the website. After finally receiving the bike I had a solid 6 weeks of riding it before busting a pawl and snapping the rear drive ring. I am grateful for the warranty but what the heck? Only 6 weeks go by and its not like I rode every day either. I guess when you buy an enduro frame bike, its not meant to be pedaled at all? Needless to say i am super disappointed in the product that was given to me, especially for the money it cost. Be careful before hitting the buy button.

Long and lovely

At 5’6” (female) riding an S3, I’m blown away by the other reviews of men 5’10” riding the same size. Wha? This bike is fun, and you couldn’t build it for what it comes with at even the non-sale price. Tires are a little skinny compared to my normal Enduro rides, but I like it. Fun all around. You’re not gonna win a XC race with it but why would you want to do that anyways? I’ll be buying a riser bar but I like the GEO.

Bike is built to decend!

Ridden about 100 miles and have zero complaints. Bike feels stable but still nimble on the decent. Rode some steep & rough trails at speed and it just blasted thought with ease. Pedals well ascending, maybe not quite as well as a XC or trail bike but haven't had any complaints getting uphill even over some rockier stuff. Not that fun to pedal on flat ground, get a different bike if you're riding alot of cross country & fire roads. This bike is designed with decents in mind. A great bike for local enduro trails and bike park alike. Plenty of adjustments on the controls to get them dialed in where you want. Shock and fork are nice and plush. You can upgrade the shock easily to add a compression adjuster knob. Would reccomend to anyone because you can't beat that price point with those build options

Awesome but heavy

Awesome bike. Bikes are getting heavier across the board from all brands, however, this one is definitely on the heavy side. The 1x12 setup, the beefy frame and mainly the wheelset adds weight. If it could shed 5lbs it would be a 5 star bike. Size S3 it weighs exactly 36lbs.

Solid Value Bike

First this bike is an amazing value. I looked for a few months before finally choosing this one, and I’m thrilled with it. I was worried about the climbing based on reviews, but the bike is a good climber! This is coming from someone used to a hard tail. It is heavy, but cornering, jumping, and anything downhill is an absolute blast. It eats up chunk and makes you feel like a better rider making every ride fun. The NX derailleur isn’t amazing, but I do feel it’s a slight bit better than the Deore stuff I’m used to. It comes pre taped and with the valve stems to go tubeless, some basic frame protection, a digital shock pump, and a torque wrench. I do not think you can get a better quality bike for the money.

Fast and frugal

The bike really feels telepathic, just point and shoot. Climbs better than most give credit. It’s not an XC bike, it climbs as it should, slow and steady, the reward is on the other side. If you’re a super hardcore shredder or some watt measuring dork, you’re not even considering this ride. If you are a decent rider who likes the carve up the trails and don’t mind not breaking climbing records then consider this one. It’s badass!!

Fantastic Trail Bike

This is my first Specialized bike, but not my first trail/mountain bike. I am still riding my 2018 Canyon Strive which is over-forked for my local trails. Hence, the reason I bought this Status 140 in S3. I am 5'10 and this frame feels quicker under my feet than the Strive in every sense. Some online reviews state the Status is a pig and inefficient when climbing, and I hesitated this purchase many times due to these reviews. This bike is not a pig, and it is pretty efficient in my opinion. The Status feels more nimble, quicker, livelier, and rolls over obstacles much better than the Canyon all day. It is always planted when it needs to be, very playful too, and when I want the front end up, it's very willing to just do it. No regrets with my purchase. My only real complaint about the bike is that with the stock crank length, I get quite a lot of pedal strikes. The Status 140 is awesome!

Awesome bike to have some fun on the trails

Bike suits well bike park laps as well as local pedal up and down trails, super solid components and affordable price. I like the geo, comparing to stump jumper more, that was the main selling factor, over year of riding only tires and brake pads need to be replaced, all other components held well so far. Would buy again and definitely recommend to anyone

I have a XC hardtail

I have a XC hardtail that I’ve been riding for the past 10 years. The Status has opened up new trails and has made the harder features on old trails easier (especially when pointing downhill). The longer wheelbase and slacker head tube angle makes the bike feel a little sluggish in the slow technical spots and when pointed uphill, however the bike feels so composed and capable when pointed down. The Status is a few pounds heavier than my XC bike, however the weight is not really noticeable while riding (most noticeable when loading onto the bike rack or carrying over obstacles). The tires are wider with a more aggressive pattern and the extra rolling resistance is felt on smooth trails or pavement, however the traction gained on the downhills makes it a fair trade off. I wouldn’t want the Status as my only mountain bike since most of my local trails are more catered towards XC, however it serves as an excellent choice for the days when I want to venture to more challenging terrain.

Right bike for the right context; a bike of extremes?

Pros: Bike is fast and stable downhill, the components rock (for the price point), lack of branding makes it fun to make your own, alloy frame is sturdy AF, really fun geometry that feels ultra playful when pointing downhill. Cons: Really low bottom bracket (even with flipchip in high) that leads too many pedal strikes. Reach is wildly far and unnecessarily long given the already long geometry; I ride typically a 460mm reach on a size Large or Medium/Large and the S5 frame feels like the right size, but the reach is 515mm which makes low speed maneuvering (uphill climbing) almost impossible. Rear 27.5" tire is a challenge to get over rocks in low speed. Conclusion: If you are mostly riding bike parks, downhill, or anything that is fast, this is the bike for you. I don't like being limited in where I can and cannot go with this bike, but, when I'm going downhill this bike is the most fun you'll have, ever.

S2 For Me!

Quick stats: 62 yrs. 210 lbs. 5'-10", knee replacement, Status 140, in low chip, tubeless, 28T chainring, bar stem +50mm, Renthal Cbn.Fatbar. I have a '21 Turbo Levo, large. Reach is too far. Levons sits too high for confidence on exposure. Status S3 is farther. S2 reach is closer, so front end does not lift like on S3+. Handles like an adult bmx bike. Exposure, no problem. Bar stem moves bar out just a bit. Cockpit does not feel cramped. Climbs as well as most mtb's, Very flickable, and nimble enough to get back on your line, when knocked off. I ride So Cal foothills, cyns. Levo rides are 8-16 miles, and Status rides are 5-10 miles, with more rest stops. I love it.

Best bang for the buck with fun geometry

I like BMX inspired geometry, super fun on jumps and park lap's, however okay's for pedal trail, it is not a race bike, so expect fun rather then speed, over course of 12 month, no issues with bike or component's; Recommended add-on SWAT water cage, GX cassette, higher level group-set. 6'1 Size S4, fits long enough not to nose dive on jumps.

Amazing Bike

The Status 140 is an amazing bike overall. No complaints. My friends also recently bought the status 160, and I went with the 140. The bikes are almost identical besides for the travel. The mx wheel setup makes the bike amazing pointed downhill. The 140 was more fun around trail riding near our houses. The status 140 was also really fun at bike parks. Similar to the 160 but not as much travel, but that is what you get when you buy the 140. No complaints at all. Strong breaks, good tires. Only thing I would recommend is getting tubeless tires. The bikes is amazing. Best bike to buy for the price.

Great bike with a few minor complains.

The bike is so capable of everything! Rock rolls, jumps, drops, and bike park. I love it. And the components on this bike performed flawlessly. My complaints are about clearance on the bike. I am on an S2 frame. All I need is just another 2mm of room to fit a 24oz water bottle. Also, the rear pivot bolt on the shock faces downward. It left me a really tight room to get my torque wrench in there to tighten it up. For example, on Epic, they had the bolt faces upward which left a lot of room for a torque wrench. I personally cannot think of a reason why they do not do it for this bike.

Status 140

I bought the frame off a separate website. In this review I’m only reviewing the frame/geometry. Like specialized says “its business in the front, party in the back.” This bike feels light and poppy. Even though it's made of aluminum, it weighs about 32 pounds(14.51 Kilos). Even though this bike has a pretty slack head tube angle, it's an exceptional climber. The big front wheel helps you get up things, and the rear is easy to whip around. The only trade off with the slack head tube, is a little trouble getting around tight turns. You only really notice this when going up steep tight switchbacks. The frame's internal cable routing is really nice, and looks clean. The pedal bob from the rear suspension isn’t that bad, and pedaling is really efficient. This bike feels amazing on anything you're riding. The short chainstay makes it smooth on jumps, and the slack head tube allows you to go all out on those steep descents. I give this bike a 10/10, and it is the best bike I’ve ridden.
