When we set out to improve the original S-Works Prevail, we knew that we had our work cut out for us. How could we improve on the industry benchmark for fit, ventilation, and comfort? By listening to our riders—that’s how. Through this, we realized that there were a few aspects of the original Prevail II that needed to be changed, with the biggest request being for a lower-sitting design.

We've teamed up with MIPS researchers to introduce MIPS SL—a new, ultra-light, and supremely comfortable version of MIPS that's available exclusively on Specialized helmets. With MIPS SL, we've essentially integrated MIPS technology within the helmet padding itself. MIPS SL's minimalist "watchband" attachment system provides 10 to 15 millimeters of rotation in every direction and offers the same brain protection benefits as other versions of MIPS, while also ushering in a new level of comfort and weight savings.

We thought to ourselves, "thinking big shouldn't result in bigger helmets," so with the Prevail, we set out to prove that big ideas can come in smaller packages. It all starts with our patented EPS construction that relies on multi-density foam that's paired with a robotically woven, Aramid-reinforced skeleton. This comes with a reduction in the overall size, creating a smaller profile that fits lower down on the head for a better fit and safety.

It also has deep internal channels that are aligned from front-to-rear, so the air intake and exhaust are optimized for unparalleled cooling over the entire head. And in the Win Tunnel, we found these new designs amounted to six seconds saved over 40km when compared to a "standard" road helmet. Another standout feature of the S-Works Prevail II is the Gutter Action System that manages the flow of sweat, keeping it away from your eyes and dripping it off of the pads over your temple.

In the end, the S-Works Prevail IIis the most complete lightweight race helmet we've ever made—perfect for hot, mountainous rides and flat, windy sections alike.

  • New MIPS SL is the lightest, most ventilated MIPS protection to date and is exclusively available on Specialized helmets.

  • Patented Energy Optimized Multi-Density EPS construction helps to manage impact energy.

  • Patented aramid-reinforced skeleton provides internal EPS support.

  • Ultra-light Mindset HairPort II micro-dial fit system with height adjustability for the perfect fit.

  • Mega Mouthport optimizes cooling and sweat evaporation.

  • Aerodynamic design.

  • 4th Dimension Cooling System with deep internal channels, large vents, and aligned exhaust ports.

  • Thin, soft, and lightweight 4X DryLite webbing won’t stretch out with sweat or water.

  • This helmet is ANGi ready, with a fit system mount designed for easy integration with our ANGi crash sensor.

  • Our available aftermarket ANGi sensor gives you and your loved ones peace of mind like never before. When combined with our Specialized Ride app, the ANGi sensor will evaluate the forces acting on the helmet in the event of an accident and, if necessary, send a text message to your specified contacts with your location.

  • Tri-Fix web splitter for improved comfort and ease of strap adjustments.

  • Instrap webbing system for ultra-light construction and security.

  • Gutter Action brow pad design for increased comfort and sweat management.

Extremely comfortable

Once I put this helmet on, I found it difficult to wear any other. It's so comfortable, I actually forget I have it on. I use older cheaper ones for real dirty mtb spins, but anything longer than 90 minutes, they all irritate me except this one.

Cheap retention

Purchased helmet at the beginning of 2019. In October of 2020 the retention knob broke off. Returned it to Bikes Mike's because it's supposed to have a two year warranty. They said no new helmet, but they could order a replacement knob and any other parts needed for me to fix. This is not exceptable. They should of replace the helmet and charge Specialized.

Flimsy retention fastener, no specialized support

Had the prevail 1 less than 2 years. The flimsy retention plastic strap snapped in travel. Specialized states since not a defect, not a current model they would neither repair nor provide replacement parts nor even enable me to buy replacement parts! They pulled all support away as soon as prevail 2 came out. Only offered 15% off retail price of new one and stated it is just their policy. Way too expensive of a helmet for zero long term support.

Best Cycling Helmet Yet

Loving this helmet. It's very comfortable, lightweight, and has the latest safety technology. MIPS helmet technology is a proven system that can mitigate the chances of a concussion. The ANGI system contacts help if you ride solo and crash. Protect your head, it's priceless!

Love Specialized Prevail

I love this helmet, it's my 4th Prevail and I think it's the best helmet on the market, it's comfortable and has saved my head from more serious injuries other than a concussion. For me the Specialized Prevail is the only helmet I want on my head. The only con is that one stickers? are peeling on the back side, kinda disappointed in that since I did pay a lot of money for it.

Very comfortable 'forget it's on' helmet

Very lightweight, breathable, and cool. So light and well ventilated that you easily forget it's on. I got it in hyper green for high visibility on the road. The only downside is that the high-vis color does not last. After just one summer of use, the color on the top has noticeably faded. I highly recommend the helmet, but not in that color.

Below-ear straps lack adjustability

For all of the tech packed into this helmet it's bizarre that the chin strap has no adjustability to change the lengths that meet below the ear. I miss the fit of my older Prevail helmet which I cracked in a crash. My lack of concussion is testimony to the protection offered by these great helmets but am a little worried about the poor fit of this chin strap not securing my new Prevail II as well.

Helmets are cheap and brain are expensive!

I have been wearing Prevails since 2012. I have been in two crashes - one frontal impact and another side impact - and the Prevails saved me. Now on my fourth Prevail, now Prevail II with Angi since I also ride alone and hope I never have to use that function. The size L fits my oblong head well and the air vents allow ample cooling. The straps are comfortable and the foam pads can be replaced.

Good Helmet

It's light and airy. It sometimes feels like a net in the wind, but not too bad. It's comfortable and stylish. The liner MIPS thing is 5 pieces so cleaning is a bit more intensive than others. I took ANGI off. One thing to note: the straps don't lie flush with my head. I was put off by this at first, but have come to appreciate it - despite their subtle flapping at speed - because they don't get soaked with sweat. Just forget about glasses over straps. It's a good helmet.

Second round with this helmet, love it even more.

I purchased a Prevail back in 2014 after a Propero saved my life. I recently replaced my beloved helmet for a Prevail ii and have been equally impressed. This helmet has incredible ventilation, is super light, and looks great for road and xc mountain biking. Highest recommendation.

Very light and comfortable helmet with excellent ventilation

I just bought one in the flaming yellow color, medium size. The helmet fits perfectly and its profile is very good. It also feels very light and comfortable. Ventilation is very good. Angi is easy to set up as well but don't know if it works. I don't quite know if it will be easy to remove the pads to wash them. The pads at the sides of the helmet have stiff black plastic liners that go through them and clip to the sides of the helmet into two small holes. I don't know how durable this is going to be after a few washes. I may have to wash the whole helmet itself without removing the pads. Bottom line is I do like this helmet very much. Highly recommended.

Great helmet,,,,,saved my life

I crashed at 38 MPH with the Specialized Prevail, it saved my life....but the system did not call my wife as advertised. Helmet broke but I did not get a concussion, only bad road rash and broken colnago frame...love to understand if there is some sort of warranty but would definitely recommend this helmet

5 Star for the Helmet. ANGi, not so much...

The helmet is awesome; light, comfy, snug, and easy to adjust. No complaints at all...love having MIPS, too. ANGi is another matter, not well executed by Specialized. The iPhone app is clunky, and the integration to Wahoo is complicated. Through trial and error I discovered that connecting ANGi to my Element Bolt is a multi step process: 1) Wake up ANGi, 2) Start the Specialized App, 3) Wait for ANGi to connect to the Specialized App, 4) Start my Bolt, 5) Start my Wahoo App, 6) Hope that ANGi connects to my Bolt (and my Bolt is smart enough to tell me when the Specialized App or the ANGi isn't connected, but ANGi is too stupid to connect on it's own). Why ANGi can't connect directly to my Bolt is a mystery...everything else does... ANGi is great in concept, but not ready for Prime Time. Too bad, too. This setup process is just too complicated when all I want to do is go ride. Buy the helmet, save yourself $50 and forget about ANGi.

This Helmet Probably Saved My Life

I was wearing this helmet on a recent road ride when a car ran a stop sign in front of me. Long/short, I missed the car but hit the pavement. Hard. Helmet was destroyed, but I walked away. It did its job very well.

The perfect helmet?

Helmets are kinda like shoes... What fits great and feels good for one person might not work at all for many others. For me, this helmet fits like no other I've tried, to the point that it almost feels like it was custom made for me. I'm coming from another pro-level helmet and the new Prevail is just as light and the ventilation is as good or better, but from there everything I would list is a clear win for the Prevail. Not only does it have MIPS but it achieves this without the yellow plastic insert found in most helmets and the pad set they designed for it is excellent. Since I ride often ride alone, I'm pleased to have ANGI along with me. It might not be a foolproof system but it's the best of its breed and a nice safety feature to have. The straps with the Trifix system work perfectly for me, with the buckle falling right under my chin and providing perfect tension to the front and back. Lastly, I have a relatively long and narrow head which generally requires me to buy a large helmet and live with varying degrees of ""room"" on the sides. This helmet (in a medium) is just about an exact fit, which definitely feels and looks better. There are cheaper options out there but I think the value that is being delivered in this helmet justifies the price. I did a special order through my LBS and I have no regrets.

This helmet saved my life

I was recently in a 55kph accident where I went over the bars and landed on my head and shoulder with no injury to my head at all even though the Prevail II was heavily damaged and cracked but it did it's job perfectly. Just released from hospital and have ordered that exact same helmet for when I'm back on the bike. Thanks for a brilliant product Specialized.

Love this helmet!

I started road cycling seriously about 8 years ago and went through the process of trying to find a helmet that really fit well. I've tried others and could never get quite the right fit. I found the Prevail and it has been my ""go to"" ever since. It fits perfectly - no rocking, no sliding - the straps don't rub and it breathes! Recommended the Prevail to a friend and she, too, now owns a Prevail. I appreciate that Specialized continues to try new technologies to keep riders safe, and like all things new, not perfect out the gate. Would love to see Angie work with Garmin or Wahoo.

Nice Helmet

Helmet fits well. ""Rocket Red"" color actually has a lot of orange in it, not really a true Red. It appears from the descriptions that the Prevail II with ANGi has MIPS while the Prevail II without ANGi does not have MIPS. Ended up getting the version with ANGi because of the MIPS with no plans to ever use the ANGi. Would be nice to have a MIPS option without the ANGi.

Get Yours! Super light comfy helmet

I love this helmet. I have a very small head and this helmet fits true to size and fits so nicely. The helmet is very comfortable and light. I wear this helmet year round on he east coast. Now with the cold weather I wear a specialized beanie underneath and have no issues with a cold head or a sweaty one for that matter. I have no pressure points wearing this helmet. The straps never get tangled, easy adjustment in the back , the thin long pads inside the helmet are not noticeable as the helmet is just so light and comfy. I never have to remove my helmet during a rest stop while regrouping as it feels like nothing is even on my head. The ANGi is an added bonus with one free year is awesome. I have fortunately not needed the services but it is a comfort for me and family knowing its activated. Again I love this helmet.

Good not great, ANGi too complicated

Light, great ventilation for Arizona heat. Runs big - I wear large in every other brand, but medium in this. Lining feels lumpier, less comfortable than my Giro Synthe MIPS. Only 1 chin strap adjustment (tightness, not below ears), less flexible fit than others - some flapping in the wind unless very snug. ANGi is a nice idea but setup and implementation too complicated - shake it, start the app, etc. Should be able to start it with my Garmin or Apple Watch. Overall ""yes"" for light weight, fit on my oval head, MIPS, and great ventilation

Prevail II is a great helmet but ANGI needs work

I've been riding with Prevail helmets for years and love the combination of light weight and excellent ventilation. The Prevail II is no different (my third Prevail helmet). MIPS seems to add yet another level of protection. ANGI is a great concept but needs a few changes to be considered truly great: 1) You have to start (and stop) Specialized's Ride app for ANGI to work. If you're like me, you're already pretty overloaded on bike tech. The last thing you want to do is remember to start yet another app. 2) Garmin or Strava integration should have been a must have out of the gate. A better implementation would have been to integrate with existing platforms so that Ride can do its job once you've started, for example, your Garmin GPS. LiveTrack is a great example of something that starts/stops on your phone once your bike GPS is started. Specialized should have done something similar with ANGI. 3) Having yet another app running on your phone means more power drain on what many of us solo cyclists consider a critical emergency device. 4) The annual subscription is expensive for what it is.

This helmet saved my head.

I'm 2 years out from a severe concussion from a car accident, so I'm very sensitive to head bumps (specifically why I bought this helmet). As chance would have it, I took a spill wearing this helmet the day I purchased it! I fell on my side at about 15mph, hitting my side/shoulder first, then banged my head pretty hard on the side near the back. I received only a very mild concussion which lasted a week, and if I didn't have a previous head injury I'm sure it wouldn't have even been that bad. I'm so glad I was wearing this helmet! As a side, I could actually feel the spin technology working when I hit the pavement as the helmet shifted noticeably on my head. I cannot say much else about it except that it felt very light and cool on my head during that first ride (rode it on a very hot day, 90°F in Sydney). The straps seem to touch the backs of my ears without a clear way to adjust them, but I'm not sure that's an issue for me — time will tell. Specialized gave me a discount on a replacement helmet immediately after my crash through the bike shop where I purchased it. I'm thankful for the quick recovery due to this helmet and look forward to putting more miles on the new one!
