I love and hate these shoes

Like many others, I have experienced the ankle pain. My only workaround so far is to wear Macpac Alpine socks. Gets rid of the ankle pain completely but I'm not looking forward to warmer weather when I'll have to use other shoes or try to find another solution. Could be made better but they are on a massive sale. The workaround to have double boas on shoes these cheap shoes is worth it. Plus I love the look and the discomfort is only bad when actually cycling. Walking is fine in regular socks.

Good but nothing like the previous model.

The prior model ClipLites were incredible and the best shoe you could buy for trail riding. This model is a complete redesign that varies greatly from it's predecessor. This have a very 'boxy' feel to them and feel like skate shoes I wore in the 6th great. The 'performance' feel of the prior generation is completely gone with these. As others have mentioned, the shoe is a lot wider and you will definitely experience discomfort around your ankle with these. If you are looking for a shoe that is similar to the prior model, check out the Fox Union shoe. I hope they fix the ankle issues with these and return to the original cliplite blueprint for the next iteration.

Comodidad suprema.

Ankle pain and not too great

As other reviewers said, it digs into the inside/front of your ankle a lot. They are very tall on the inside making it a sloppy fit when trying to really control the bike. I added a thick insole and that helped a bit with the ankle pain and sloppy fit, but I still may sell them and get the lace version. It seems to fit a lot better.

BOA makes all the difference!

I tried two other lace-up versions of the 2FO shoes. Both were very good but a PITA to put on, lace up and take off -- the upper material is very stiff. This BOA version of (essentially the same) shoe solves all of those issues. FWIW I have a high instep and I don't have ANY discomfort in these shoes even though they are brand-new. The fit is excellent. If you hadn't guessed, I really, really like these bike shoes!

Super quick on/off

Love these so for but they do kinda bite into your ankles a bit. I ended up putting a thin insole from another shoe underneath my footbeds and it raises my foot just enough so they don’t bother my ankles anymore. I have super high arches so I also run the specialized body geometry orthotics and they’re awesome. Super light shoe and the BOA system is rad

Truly horrible.

The ankle pain. How did they overlook that? Who approved the shoe? The tongue design is so bad that any positives of the shoe are overshadowed by it. What? You need a stiff tongue for the boa, ok. But it ends exactly where the top boa line is. Allowing it to pinch the hard fabric right against the top of the ankle.

Highly recommended

Great clipless pedals with flat pedal hikability/walkability and look. The double boa is very comfortable and allows you to perfectly adjust the tightness of the shoe at the top and bottom of the foot. Hard to go back. The channel for the cleat is well designed, extends far enough to the heel and works great with SPD pedals.

Toe box has split after 5 rides

I still have 2 pairs of the old 2FO Cliplites kicking around. Love those shoes. Like really. These ones, not so much. I've been wearing my old ones on longer rides while breaking in the new ones in short rides and on the gravel bike. But I didn't break them in, I just broke them. Pros: the new style BOAS are easier to use. Cons: everything else. Less comfortable, and the toebox suffered a blowout right along where the rubber scuff protector and upper material meet. Going to see if I can return them. Sorry Specialized, I was a huge fan of your shoes but I'm going to have to shop around.

Love the BOA but maybe not as good as before

I had five pairs of the previous generation 2fo shoes with Boa. Nothing else came close. They also lasted really well without losing stiffness or falling apart. These new ones look better and still have Boa…Im in! The first pair that I got when the came out is ready to be retired after less than 2 years. The shoe bed that the cleat screws into has fully fractured and the rubber sole is also delaminating. Still great shoes they just don’t last as long.

Pain in the ankle

2FO = 2 Foot Out because you cant wait to get your two feet out when the ankle pain starts. As many others are writing, the way these shoes bite into your ankle makes them almost unwearable on longer rides and I can’t wear them consecutive days riding. It’s a shame because the shoe itself feels comfortable but as soon as you cinch down the boa and start riding, the real pain becomes evident. The only thing I have found that helps is by pulling the tongue firmly to the interior side of each foot while I tighten the upper boa. But as soon as the tongue starts slipping into its normal middle position, the pain becomes more severe.

Nerve Pain - Ouch!

I was under the impression that these shoes were going to "break in" after a few rides. I've worn them for 7 rides and they did NOT break in. The top apex of the shoe just above the BOA is very stiff! I normally ride Sidi Dominators, but got these for my new Stumpy Evo trail bike. I'm used to an extremely comfortable and snug fit. With the 2FO, the more secure the top BOA, the more the shoe will dig into the medial and lateral malleoulus. It made my ankle very tender and sore. I actually started getting shooting nerve pain during my last 2 rides. No Bueno! The last thing I want in a bike shoe is for it to be painful or loose fitting. Not pleased.

Runs reallll small

Have yet to ride in these shoes, as the ones I ordered were wayy too small. I am normally a womens 7.5 so I ordered the 38.5 EU size. They were incredibly tight and not even close to being my size. Reordered in a 39.5, but definitely recommend sizing up in these.

Massive Downgrade from Original 2FO Cliplite

I've gone through 3 pairs of the old 2FO Cliplite over the past 8 years, and I loved them. With these new ones, I can say the looks, sole, overall finish, and new BOAs are an improvement. However, the fitment on these was absolutely terrible for me. Compared to the originals, these new ones run longer, the toe box is wider and taller, and the cleat doesn't go quite as far back. You can size down to address the length and cleat position, but the huge toe box is a big issue for me. It's way more comfy off the bike, but once I rode in them, my feet were swimming around side to side and my forefoot was lifting up, no matter how tight I did the BOAs. The upper material is also much more flimsy / less rigid than before, further allowing my feet to move around way too much inside the shoe. The last part here is subjective, but the cuff also dug into the inside ankle bone of my back foot so bad, it was painful to ride in, and I couldn't even put them on the next day.

Buenas zapatillas a buen precio

Woof, I rode the previous

Woof, I rode the previous versions of the 2FO ClipLite, and was in love. I read previous reviews that stated issues with fit. I chose to ignore them thinking that even if the shoe was significantly worse it would still be good since the original was amazing. I was wrong! There are nasty pressure point around the cuff of the shoe. I attempted to use a heat gun to flare the cuff out, which helped make the shoe tolerable, but still bad. The sizing doesn't line up with the previous version either, the new version runs smaller. I wouldn't recommend the shoe, but if you do buy it, size it up and work on enjoying pain.

Rugged and comfortable for riding

Rugged and comfortable for riding and walking. The BOA wire kind of digs into my ankle, so I might sew a little retainer to hold the wire half a centimeter farther down the tongue. My ankles are thicc tho Where these shoes stand out to me is that they are basically the same weight as a regular pair of shoes. A lot of other brands I tried the shoes were like a pound each, and it didn't really seem like that weight was for good purpose.

Comfy yet stiff enough to get the job done

Great shoes! I love the fit and feel. This is my 4th pair with my first pair when they started with laces when they were first released. Every pair I can feel the improvements made. This particular generation and or pair somewhat feel stiff where they shoe meets my ankle but have broken in and I don’t notice it as much but it’s really only noticeable when I’m drinking a cold one and still wearing my shoes after a ride. Disappointing

I have been riding the same 2FO BOA's for more than five years and have loved them. This new style for me however was a huge let down. I have had some of the same problems others have expressed, namely discomfort on top of the foot. Feels like the upper BOA band digs into the dorsum and medial aspect of the foot through the tongue. This is accentuated by downhill riding, the foot slides forward in shoe into boa strap regardless of how aggressive they were secured. I usually wear a 44, sizing down to 43 resulted in dorsal foot pain standing neutral. I don't consider my feet narrow, I'm 6' 190lbs, but the toe box is quite a bit wider allowing play in the forefoot making clipping out sloppy. There is also no ramp for the cleat in front of the cleat recess, as there is on previous 2FO's, this made clipping in annoyingly difficult. Build quality is great but this shoe is just a huge step back from its predecessor.

Beauty but poor fit

Ive been a big 2fo fan and had multiple pairs of the previous model. These shoes are great in many ways but the fit is less than desired, e.g. the tongue for sure bites, ive never had a shoe where that was an issue, toe box is large so foot moves around a lot and thats terrible for an enduro shoe. I think sizing options are great though, potentially 43.5 vs 44 vs 44.5 could solve some peoples issues but my toes were nearly touching the front with the 43.5. The seam on the side, although flat on the outside, u can feel it on the inside, very annoying. Gotta find some other shoes but going to play with some shims in the toe box first. I find the shoe good generally but as the terrain gets really rough or steep they dont play nice. I want a recon 3.0 type shoe with these soles, more padding for enduro.

Looks good but bad design update

I have both the current generation of these and the older version. First the tongue design is elongated at the ends, why? Makes the fit very tight. Not comfortable. The new boa design to take off you shoe does not work. You have to man handle the tongue to get the boa to release once you pull out the boa lock. Or use the other heal to hold one heal down and the the heals start to separate from the shoes. Honestly, I love the overall look of the new gen vs the old gen but it’s as if Specialized didn’t have time to quality accept test these shoes on real trails nor did they test putting on and pulling off. Unfortunate for such a great shoe. I’ll go back to the older generation.

Good shoe, but flawed

Coming from the last 2F0s, these look better imo, and are much easier to hike a bike in. That said, the BOAs are garbage. They bind constantly and make pulling the shoes off a real chore. Additionally, the tongue portion pinches on the lower ankle and can great a hot spot and some discomfort. I will say that this goes away as soon as im pedalling, which is nice. The toe box is also quite large and my feet do move forward when on steeps unless I am wearing thick socks to fill the shoe in with. Overall, they're good, but could be improved marginally. If they make a 2.5 version, I will be all over them.

Better shape and more comfortable than earlier version

I read these reviews and almost didn't buy them. But I liked the previous version so much, figured they really couldn't have made them worse, and bought them anyway. And I'm glad I did. They are defnitely different to the previous version, mostly in shape. The toe box is bigger, which as a person with very wide feet, works very well. They also fit a bit bigger than the older version. I'm a 45 and they are nowhere near as 'snug' as the previous ones. I have noticed some slight rubbing around the ankles from the side of the shoe. So far nothing that I would consider painful, but it's defnitely there and wasn't with the previous model. I've so far only done three rides, and they are holding up well in terms of duribility. On the whole I would have to say they have improved comfort and fit from my wide foot perspective. Great shoes that give you lots of control on the bike. Highly reccomended.

Crippled my feet

I really wanted to love this shoe. Sadly this fit me the way it's fit others. The shoe rubbed my ankle bones in a very bad way. I sized up half a size. I sized down half a size. I put in higher insoles. Nothing made it better. Never had a shoe do this to my feet. I would note that I could not replicate the feeling just standing in the shoe. But when I pedal and the ankle flexes and the ankle rotates inward a bit it was very obvious and painful.

Needed a full size smaller

I've been a huge fan, and have used the previous generation 2FO Cliplites as my primary MTB shoe since they came out, and I had a lace up pair before that. I've always been a 45 in these shoes so I mistakenly bought a pair of 45's from my LBS without trying any other sizes. I immediately noticed the toe box was roomier which was comfortable at first, but after a couple of rides, the padding packed out a bit, and they were definitely too big. I ended up going down a full size after trying both a 44 and a 44.5. The 44's have been a great, and now that they are packed out, they fit my foot pretty well. They're definitely still a little bit wider than the old version, which hasn't been a problem, but just something I've noticed. After two rides, the right toe started de-laminating, but my LBS and Specialized are taking care of that under warranty. I'm hoping the replacement pair will be bomber like my last few pairs of 2FO cliplites.

It all about the shape of your feet

I have read the reviews on these shoes, and I agree with the other people when I tried them on there is pressure on the tongue on the inside on the top of the ankle, so I went half a size bigger and it seems to have elevated the problem they feel great, so if they last I would give them 5 stars but I believe it comes down to foot shape.

Great Shoe, Except the Tongue

I was really pumped on this shoe at first. Tried it on and it fit pretty well for the couple of minutes in the shop. The toe box is pretty square which fits my foot well. I took it on a 6 mile ride of steep long climbs and some descending and the front of my ankles on both feet are bruised by the tongue from the shoe. The tongue is thin and not very soft where it meets your leg and it cuts into my ankles and is unforgiving. If you've got a lower volume foot and don't have this problem then maybe you'll love it. My foot is a standard width (not wide) but I have a slightly taller instep than some shoes allow. Gonna have to send it back :(

2nd Gen 2FO

I'll start out by stating that I had the previous generation of 2FO lease ups, and the 2FO boa, and loved them! I ride a lot of park (40 lift days a summer) I've owned many Specialized shoes, and enjoyed them. This might be the worst pair I've ever owned. After one ride the insides of my foot hurt, something I've never had, I ever got new arch supports. Maybe they were just new, and need to be broke in. My next ride was 20miles in Moab. Soon into my ride I realized this was going to be a painful ride. TRY them on! Crank the boa down, and move you knees left to right (like you are cornering) if it jabs your ankle bone, it's a sign of things to come. Sorry S, this is not a good shoe.
