Amazing long lasting tire

I was doubting this Specialized Butcher tire as I am used to buy Shwalby or Michelin tires that cost double the price. I was so impressed when I started to ride my Levo SL Expert. This tire is the best I have ever tried. It’s behaving well on all kinds of terrain and weather conditions. It’s lasting twice as long as other expensive tires. Awesome tire!

Apprehensive to try but fell in love

The new tread patterns and compounds from Specialized are incredible. I’ve been a Maxxis guy for five years and was apprehensive about switching to Specialized tires. But I’m really glad I did. As with any tire switch, it takes a minute to get to know the tire's character. Once I did, I was very impressed. The soft T9 compound grips super well. Fresh ones pick up dirt off the trail and throw it in the air. The soft compound is every bit as good as or better than MaxxGrip and lasts almost twice as long at nearly half the price. Specialized offers a variety of patterns, casings, and compounds to perfectly fit your riding style.

My go to tire

Great tire for desert riding. Run this tire year round in the Arizona desert. Good grip and cornering traction. I like the softer compound and dont care much about ultra long life as long as they provide good traction, but found they still wear well. Also with the price point they are cheaper than some other tires that wear out just as quickly. I run with cushcore and have not had a pinch flat yet.

I’ve run a Hillbilly Grid T7 on the front and a Butcher Grid T7 on the rear for a year now and they suit our Wellington NZ weather and tracks well. The T9 rubber Hillbilly might be even better up front, will try that next...

Insanely good front tyre.

Up front on a trail bike, this tyre is incredible. it rolls over and through any terrain you pint it at. The T9 compound is the stickiest. Tubeless setup was as easy as you'd hope. Nice work, and a great value tyre too.

T9 compound is a winner

The Butcher Grid has been a tough tire and hooks up pretty good on most surfaces for me. Sometimes when the grip is really high I get some sidewall flex so I run a little more pressure. The T9....such a great compound. Tough and tacky for most surfaces. It works in the AZ desert and the dirt trails in Oregon. The T9 wears much faster than the T7 but it also sticks much better. Since it doesn't cost a fortune I think it's worth it.

Do it all tire

Mounts easily and without tools and set tubeless easily. I have been using Butchers as a front tire on my bikes for a couple years and find them to be a great jack of all conditions tire- mud, dry, loose, rocky, it grips it all, leans over well, is very predictable and has plenty of grip even on roots. For the price this is every bit as good as much higher priced tires and performs a bit better across a wider range of conditions. As an employee at a shop once said to me-- you can buy that much more expensive tire we sell, but this one is every bit as good and half the price. All true.

So far, the Butcher has been great and has handled all these conditions.

Great Front Tire

I currently run the 2.3 version as a front tire. It measures slightly wider than advertised, which is fine. The grip on this tire is incredible. The nobs bite really well, and the T9 compound molds to rocks and roots nicely. Sidewall protection is pretty nice too. I would definitely buy this tire again.

Half price for a pair of Specialized tires? Yes please. I got these to replace the OEM tires that came with my 2022 Stumpy Pro. Normally I’m a Maxxis guy, but I didn’t buy Maxxis to replace my old rubber on this bike. That should tell you everything you need to know. Maxxis overcharges and their quality control is very lousy these days.

My teens and I ride

My teens and I ride aggressive trail/Enduro bikes as our all around bikes here in Alaska/western Canada. We ride everything: tech DH/bike parks (Whistler//Alyeska), DH flow, XC, and long back country multi day bike tours, even caribou hunt off the bikes. Previously we were all riding Maxxus DHF (maxgrip) on the front My teen daughter switched to the Butcher (T9 trail) 2 summers ago, I switched last summer and just got a set for my son. Far superior tire to the DHF in terms of grip and predictability. For rear my daughter and I switched from an aggressor to a purgatory and my son switched from a DHR to an eliminator. Thank you Specialized for making some great tires!

The new butcher is my new go to tire, it’s relatively in-expensive, it has great rubber compounds in both the T9 and T7 for both grip and wear respectively, it’s casing is light but offers pretty good puncture protection, and they last. For these reasons, I haven’t purchased a maxxis or schwalbe in over a year, and hopefully won’t need to in the future. This is kind of a unicorn tire, try it if you are on the fence and you will most likely be impressed.

I had always run Maxxis

I had always run Maxxis in the past but once my DHF reached about 50% of its life I started to really notice a lack of traction and I washed out on a couple corners that I really shouldn't have and slammed pretty hard. I really started to notice the "vague" feeling people talk about in transition. I had a chance to demo a Stumpy Evo on a riding trip in Idaho and the bike was equipped with specialized tires. I felt soooo planted and in control. I came home feeling really good about it. About a month later I washed out hard on a really stupid-easy turn. Went straight home and ordered a butcher and eliminator. Never looking back.

Damped and Stable

Very nice comfy front tire. Using this as specified T9 2.3 version for the Stumpjumper EVO, it grips in well and doesn't ping off rocks or roots. Fantastic on landing as it doesn't squirm around and there's some magic in the compound which just creates that extra layer of cushioning. Singapore's always wet and rainy. While nothing can help on slippery roots, this tire holds well in the muddy bits. Paired it to a T7 Eliminator rear.

Great mixed conditions tire to run front and back

The Butcher Grid Trail T9, is a great mixed conditions tire. If you want to simplify your life and just keep one tire, this one would be it for trail/all mountain/enduro riding. I've been running Butchers front and rear for three months. I've been very happy with the level of grip they provide. I find the gains in traction and the predictable handling to be well worth any trade-off in rolling resistance. Especially considering I can simply rotate my front tire to the rear and mount up a fresh one on the front end. On the front end: this is really where this tire shines. I get none of the vagueness of a certain tire we all know that has a similar tread pattern, because the channel between the center tread and side knobs is smaller. My front end has gripped well on loose over hard, hard pack, soft dirt, wet roots, and rocks. I could track surprisingly well through rough terrain even in wet conditions.

Bucthers Rock! Update!

Been snowing here in NY a lot lately....This means we have no choice but to get out there regardless. Reviewed the Butchers recently and happy to say these totally Rock in snow as well! After quite a few rides in various levels of snow intensity the Butchers truly stick amazingly in climbs and turns. So pleased to mention this... as I am not a regular comment person for reviews but these were very impressive. For the snow...rear 16.5 psi...front 15psi...tubeless I'm 6'/170 lbs

New Butchers Rock!

Couple of years ago I had Butchers on my Stumpjumper and didn't like them at all.... Using the newer version of the Butchers for over 1300 miles now on my E-Stumpy and feel it's time to say...They are amazing overall! The rear has great hookup yet still allows a decent controlled slide on turns yet grips very well on the rooty/slimy climbs. The front is very responsive making harder rail leans confidence inspiring. I'm 6ft/170lbs... running tubeless front 18-19, rear 19-20....lower in the ice/snow when it's that time. Always using 29x2.6 Loving the way they hold up as well.... I'd definitely give them a try if you're considering.

Super GRIPtopia

This is a rad front tyre to look down at. I am a pro coach/cyclist where my bike is my tool and man I love the confidence that these tyres bring me. Granted Ive only ridden them under 200miles, but they sure are tough feeling, yet supple. I matched this front tyre with the Eliminator 2.3 Grid Gravity and a fantastic combo. Im 190lbs and run my pressure this winter around 19lbs, which is unheard of for me. That might change once the speeds of spring and summer increase, but dang I love them. Not typically, or actually never really. big S tyres fan, but things have changed. These are awesome tyres and would definitely recommend them to a friend!
